And English-born Australian actress Naomi Watts attended the glamorous soirée with designer Stella McCartney and actress Kate Hudson.
The stylish trio documented their evening on social media - from pre-event facials and dancing in their limousine, to red carpet posing and selfies in the bathroom.

Stella and Kate prepared for the gala by applying a gold-leaf facial and posting snaps of their faces with the masks on and towels on their heads.
Stella played a game with her Instagram followers as their faces were obscured by the gold covering, asking: 'Can you guess my Met date?... #GoldenGirls x Stella.'
Naomi, 48, joked, 'I didn't get the memo', as she was pictured arriving in a polka dot summer dress while the pair were still in their robes.

Stella took to Instagram Story to announce each of her 'dates' by name in the luxury 'camper van', as they twirled and posed for the camera in their gowns.
Kate and Naomi can be seen smiling and giggling as Stella narrates from behind the lens of her phone's camera.
She ends the brief video by turning the camera on herself, saying: 'And then there's little old me.'

The trio were dressed to impress as they arrived at the annual gala, which is attended by Hollywood's biggest stars.
Naomi took selfies with the ladies at the event, captioning her snaps on Instagram: 'Girls night tonight #stellasquad And yes, this time three is THE crowd @stellamccartney @katehudson #metgala2017.'
Stella also labelled Naomi a 'fox' in a social media post of the actress wearing her design, and later claimed Kate and Naomi were the 'best dates in town!'

Naomi opted for a plunging black Stella McCartney gown with shimmering netting across her chest.
Fellow actress Kate wore a head-to-toe white ensemble that matched perfectly with her icy peroxide blonde hair.

Naomi attended her first ever Met Gala 11 years ago in 2005.
The theme for this year’s gala was Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between, honouring Japanese designer Rei Kawakubo.
Rei founded the label Comme des Garçons and is known for pushing boundaries in the fashion world.
