A man shot his wife before turning the gun on himself in a 'domestic-murder suicide' in Baltimore. police have said.

Samuel Lancelotta is believed to have killed wife Beth before shooting himself in the back yard of the couple's home.

One of their teenage sons called 911 after discovering the aftermath of the double killing.

All three of the couple's teenage children were at home when the shootings happened, police have said.

Howard County Police said the couple died after the shooting at 10.40am on Monday.

They were taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center by helicopter, the Baltimore Sun reports, but medics were unable to save their lives.

Police spokeswoman Sherry Llewllyn said there was no obvious motive for the murder suicide, and added that there are 'no indications that anyone else was involved in the incident'.

A handgun was recovered from the scene in Ellicott City.

The company's website boasts that it has represented clients in the purchase, sale or lease of mpre than $1billion of commercial real-estate.

Howard County Executive Allan Kittleman, told WBALTV: 'Both Beth and Sam have been friends of mine for a long time. I liked them both. 

'I woke up to the news this morning like many others in Howard County. I was shocked and saddened.'

He said the couple had held campaign fundraisers to support them, and said his thoughts went out to their children.
