Inside the Met Gala: Katy Perry shuns controversial red carpet arrival as she gives bondage-inspired performance alongside crooner John Legend for annual star-studded extravaganza

She made a very controversial red carpet arrival to the Met Ball, while he looked incredibly dapper on the arms of his stunning wife Chrissy Teigen.

And Katy Perry paid no attention to her style critiques from earlier on in the night as she took to the stage to perform at the star-studded fashion spectacle at the Metropolitan Museum of Art at New York's 5th Avenue on Monday night.

The pop princess, 32, set temperatures soaring as she flashed snippets of flesh in a super shiny latex ensemble as she took to the stage - all captured by model Emily Ratajkowski - before John Legend swooned audiences by taking to the piano.

Katy, who was the co-chair of the 69th annual Met Gala, absolutely sizzled in the saucy bondage-inspired number.

The songstress' look was formed of a tiny bralet, high-waisted shorts and barely-there leggings - all pulled together by matching material straps.

A pair of trainers added a crucial level of comfort for Perry, as she pulled out all the stops for a dramatic performance - which was well loved by the Blurred Lines model as she captured it all on Snapchat.

The Roar singer was seen prancing around on stage and backing up against the wall, all while flaunting her pert derriere as she turned.

John, 38, put on a much more smother performance as he sang his classic love songs to an adoring audience who circled around his piano.

He looked incredible dapper as he cut a solo figure in the spotlights - a stark contrast to earlier on when he arrived with his stunning other half Chrissy.

The model, 31, stunned in a sheer white Marchesa mini dress that showed off her toned midsection and long legs.

John, meanwhile, rocked a sophisticated white blazer, black trousers, and a matching bow tie.

Katy's red carpet arrival proved to be much more head-turning - albeit for a completely different reason.

She opted for a scarlet gown which featured an intricate embroidered sequined designs on the front along with huge fake flowers and long train.

The bright red dress she sported came complete with a veil voluminous veil that contains an elaborate headpiece that reads 'eye witness' and is adorned by an eyeball applique and mirrors.

As soon as she arrived to the red carpet in Galliano's design, some social media users loved her look, while others took offence and called the Roar songstress out for her designer choice.

Outrage: Katy faced backlash on social media for wearing a dress to the Met Gala designed by John Galliano who was found guilty of making anti-Semitic remarks in Paris in 2011

Galliano was sacked by Christian Dior in 2011 for 'odious behaviour' after being arrested for making racist and anti-Semitic insults during a drunken rant at a bar.

He was sentenced in September 2011 to pay a fine after being found guilty of making anti-Semitic remarks. He subsequently attributed his behaviour to his alcohol addiction issues and sought rehab treatment.

Numerous people on social media blasted Perry for wearing a gown designed by Galliano, who joined Maison Margiela in 2014 to take control of the creative direction of the brand.

She later changed into a tiny orange leotard and hooded sequinned cape for the after-party at New York's Boom Boom Room.
