'I did something unforgivable because I was out of my mind': Sinead O'Connor apologises for 'vicious' attack on family during breakdown

Sinead O'Connor has apologised to her family for 'insulting' them during a breakdown in 2016 over a disagreement about a house she owns.

According to the Irish Mirror, the 50-year-old singer took to Facebook to put things right, saying: 'Last year I did something...unforgivable because I was out of my mind.

'I insulted very viciously, people I love. My family specifically...I want to apologise here for the fact I did such an awful thing. I am nothing but remorseful and it is, as I said, unforgivable...

'Because actually they're really cool. And it's me who's been the total A-Hole. And it really hurt my family, what I did with Facebook.'

The site reports that at the start of the year, Sinead sold her home in Bray, County Wicklow for under €800,000 - after paying €1.7million for it

In March, Arsenio Hall dropped a $5million lawsuit against Sinead over a Facebook post in which she claimed he gave Prince drugs.

Hall took legal action after O'Connor explosively accused him of supplying the late singer with narcotics and even 'spiking her drink' at a party years earlier at Eddie Murphy's house.

O'Connor apologized for her comments on Wednesday and issued a retraction, prompting Hall to drop his lawsuit in response.

'I apologize for my Facebook posts about Arsenio to the extent that anyone thought I was accusing him of acting as Prince's drug dealer and supplying him with illegal hard drugs, or insinuating that Arsenio had something to do with Prince's death.

'I sincerely apologize because those statements would be false, and I retract them unequivocally,' she told TMZ in a statement.

Last year, Sinead threatened suicide in another Facebook post, writing: 'There is only so much any woman can be expected to bear. I have taken an overdose.

'There is no other way to get respect. I am not at home, I’m at a hotel, somewhere in Ireland, under another name.

'If I wasn’t posting this, my kids and family wouldn’t even find out. I could have been dead here for weeks already and they’d never have known.'

Sinead, who appears much happier now, is living in San Francisco and is mother to Jake Reynolds, 29, 20-year-old Roisin Waters, Shane Lunny, 12, and nine-year-old Yoshua Bonadio.

Emergency dash: Sinead O'Connor revealed six months ago that she had to rush to hospital due to pain following a botched surgery

Last October, Sinead revealed she had to rush to hospital as she was struggling to breathe following botched surgery.

The Irish singer claimed it was due to intense pain in her liver, which was accidentally sliced during the procedure in California on Saturday.

And she cursed the fact she had no loved ones around her, admitting to being lonely and saying it is the 'story of my life' as she posted on Facebook on Sunday.

The 49-year-old said: '"F***. Gotta go to emergency. Liver all f***ed and killing me.

'Can't breathe properly it so sore. Am posting as am lonely. Story of life.

'Wish was not so alone in world. Gotta be worth something to someone after all these years and after all I given. Am so shocked to be so all alone.'

The Nothing Compares To You star has been suffering from gynecological issues for the past three years, and had a hysterectomy last year.

Following her procedure she was staying in San Rafael, California, and complained about her trying year, saying she had been 'treated so bad it's a miracle I made it.'

She also said she has been having hormone replacement therapy, and that it had made her feel like her old self.

Glenageary-born Sinead said: 'Still feeling so miserable from surgery. I don't recommend it Lost awful lot of blood as liver got cut accidentally so am weak as F**k.

'But I do recommend hormone replacement. Am Different person. Stupid Irish doctors never recommended it to me all year but I finally got it two weeks ago in US and am me again.

'Thank you to doctor here in America. And thank you to my surgeon.(sic)"

Prior to her procedure, she had revealed she was going to be 'having surgery performed by a robot,' but it seems even that was not enough to prevent the operation room error.

And the mother-of-four also said that after she has kicked her addiction to cannabis after three decades of abuse, and is planning to spend the next year recovering by staying at a sober living facility.

The singer has struggled with mental health issues for years, and went missing twice in the past year after posting worrying messages on Facebook.

She also attempted suicide in 1999 and revealed to Oprah Winfrey she was diagnosed bipolar, though this was ruled out by three other doctors when she sought second opinions.

The grandmother said: 'I was in rehab by the way. For thirty years of being a weed head. Can proudly state I now have clean p**s and will be in a 'sober living environment' for the next year.

'It's more like a home environment. Only its complete with support system. Which is a first for me. Proud of self. Wasn't easy.

'0-18 years in Ireland and then 34 years in music business and the s**t that's gone on for the last year.... it's a miracle I wasn't on every drug in sundry. #CleanP**sRocks.'
