He's the Hollywood star often spotted in his Sydney suburb of Woolloomooloo.

And Russell Crowe has fawned over his longtime neighbour, legendary radio host John Laws, during a recent interview.

The 53-year-old spoke with Fitzy & Wippa on Friday and described his respect for the veteran presenter plus the late media tycoon, Kerry Packer.

Ryan 'Fitzy' Fitzgerald asked Russell if he was often 'caught sometimes in Woolloomooloo, sitting down and having a Wild Turkey with John Laws?'

'Mate, I love to! He's such a great chap. He's lived a big life,' the actor replied of his fellow Finger Wharf resident.

The star of the upcoming The Mummy film described a chat with John Laws as being a 'conversation without fences'.

'There are a few people in my life I'm lucky enough to have met that have got such experience you can have a conversation [with them] and it doesn't get to that point where it stops,' he gushed.

He then compared the talk back radio maestro to late entrepreneur Kerry Packer.

'Kerry was either completely over the top of the subject you were talking about or he was so inquisitive to find out more that the conversation never slowed down,' he explained.

Russell's new movie, The Mummy, is a reboot of the original franchise and is intended to be the first installment in the Universal Monsters shared universe.

His co-star in the film, Tom Cruise, said in a recent Today interview he has 'a lot of respect for' Russell and called him 'a brilliant actor'.
