Big Little Lies star Iain Armitage takes on Jim Parsons' role in first trailer for Big Bang Theory prequel Young Sheldon

Following the CBS Upfronts in New York on Wednesday, fans got to finally see the first look at Big Bang Theory's prequel Young Sheldon.

The trailer, which stars Big Little Lies actor Iain Armitage, shows nine-year-old Sheldon Cooper getting to grips with the world.

The show looks back on the early life of Sheldon before the events of The Big Bang Theory.

Put simply, Sheldon is a nine-year-old genius, and nuisance, living with his family in East Texas.

He skips fourth grade and heads directly to high school, much to the annoyance of his siblings.

CBS' description of the show says: Being a once-in-a-generation mind capable of advanced mathematics and science isn’t always helpful in a land where church and football are king.

The shows executive producers include Chuck Lorre, Steve Molaro, Todd Spiewak and Jon Favreau.

The impressive cast also boasts Zoe Perry, Lance Barber, Raegan Revord and Montana Jordan.

On Wednesday CBS released the photos of Armitage, showing the young star in front of a school bus.

The new series will make its debut on September 25 for a one-time preview of it's pilot.

More episodes will air at a later date in the CBS lineup.

The Big Bang Theory will begin it's eleventh season this fall, and it shows no signs of slowing down as it's already been renewed for season twelve.

CBS CEO Leslie Moonves told reporters at the networks' upfront presentation that he hopes to take the show beyond the already-announced renewals.

The wildly popular series has it's stars earning an estimated $900,000 per episode.

It was reported that the main cast, including Parsons, Kaley Cuoco, Johnny Galecki, Simon Helberg and Kunal Nayyar all took pay cuts so co-stars Melissa Rauch and Mayim Bialik could get raises.

Of the report, Bialik told People, 'I think in general, don't believe everything you read. I'm not specifically speaking about that.'

As for Young Sheldon star Iian Armitage, he is quickly becoming an in-demand child actor.

If Reese Withersoon has her way, Iain's schedule could become even busier as the Big Little Lies star says she wants another season of their hit HBO show, which was meant to be a standalone seven-part series.

'Nicole (Kidman) and I produced it as well so we've been talking to the writer, Liane Moriarty, who wrote the book, about new ideas and what these characters can do. It seems like people just love these characters. Hopefully we can go on,' she told Ellen on Wednesday's episode.
