Spicey cracks a smile! Melissa McCarthy grins as New Yorkers cheer her on in outtakes from her latest Sean Spicer SNL skit

  • Melissa McCarthy took to the streets of New York City last week dressed as White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer to film a skit for Saturday Night Live
  • On Tuesday, the show released outtakes from the hilarious sketch
  • In the video, New Yorkers are heard cheering McCarthy on from the streets and waving to her from their office windows
  • McCarthy is also seen dodging fire trucks on the street and improvising a scene involving a hot dog vender

New Yorkers are used to films and television shows shooting in their streets, but rarely do such productions keep them from going about their business.

That wasn't the case last Friday though, when Melissa McCarthy stepped out to film a sketch for Saturday Night Live dressed as White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer.

McCarthy breathed new life into the show when she took on the part of 'Spicey' earlier this year, and it was clear from the crowds of fans on the streets that her gum-chewing, insult-slinging spokesman is already a classic character.

In outtakes from the sketch which SNL released on Tuesday, McCarthy makes a sarcastic remark about the gaggle of fans that have turned out to see her drive her podium-mobile down the street.

'Good thing is nobody knows we're shooting. This has definitely stayed undercover,' McCarthy says, breaking character as hot-headed Spicer to let out a laugh.

The video also shows McCarthy improvising a scene involving a hot dog vendor that never made it into the finished sketch.

In the scene, McCarthy drives her podium down a sidewalk and snatches a hot dog from a vendor just as he's trying to hand it over to another woman.

In one take, McCarthy accidentally hits the driver - causing the hot dog to tumble to the ground. In another take, she grabs a hot dog off his cart and then angrily swats his ketchup and mustard bottles to the ground.

As McCarthy drives down the streets towards Trump Tower, New Yorkers cheer her on from the sidewalks, yelling out 'Go Spicey!' and 'I love you Melissa!'

At one point, the director is trying to give McCarthy directions on where to look for one scene when they realize that workers in a high-rise office are watching the shoot.

'Ah! I'm roasting in the sun!' she says in the final shot from the video

Melissa laughs and waves back to the glee of the office workers above.

The busy New York streets proved problematic later on when a fire truck blared its sirens and drove through McCarthy's shot as she was driving her podium down the street.

And the beautiful day eventually proved too much for McCarthy, who was dressed in a suit.

'Ah!  I'm roasting in the sun!' she says as she covers her face in the final shot from the video.
