Crown Princess Mary of Denmark is a doting mother to four beautiful and very well behaved children.

But she became a mother of a different kind on Saturday when a family of seven ducks needed urgent assistance to escape the palace walls.

The family of seven, which included a father, mother and five ducklings, had hatched in the garden of Amalienborg where the Danish royal family live.

With her bodyguard in tow the royal family scooped up the seven ducks and popped them into a box. They drove to a nearby citadel and placed the fluffy birds into the water

When it became to leave their nest on Saturday they couldn't manage to scale the thickly built walls of the palace and became trapped.

It was then that Crown Princess Mary decided to set the ducklings free.

On Tuesday Princess Mary accidentally worked a nervous toddler into tears while opening the Arla Foods Global Innovation Centre at the Agro Food Park.

The little girl, who was the daughter of one of the organisers, could be seen seeking comfort in the arms of her father after becoming overwhelmed with the task of presenting Mary with a bouquet of flowers.

Naturally the royal did not take offense and tried her best to comfort the youngster before proceeding with her engagement.
