'Definition of a mid-life crisis!' Geordie Shore newcomer Abbie Holborn's dad, 42, performs 'cringeworthy' Backstreet Boys routine on Britain's Got Talent... and viewers HATE it

It seems that 2017 is the year the Holborn family, from Newcastle, have decided to propel themselves into the world of reality television.

With Abbie Holborn, 19, joining the cast of Geordie Shore for the latest season, her father, Craig, 42, has joined a boy band.

Calling themselves The Boyz, the four-piece appeared on Saturday evening's Britain's Got Talent to, perhaps predictably, perform a rendition of Backsteet Boys' hit Everybody (Backstreet's Back).

Craig - who is the oldest member of the group, alongside co-members David, 34, Matt, 31, and Richard, 26 - took the lead, announcing to judges Simon Cowell, Alesha Dixon, David Walliams and Amanda Holden that he had been in the biz for 22 years.

While no mention of his Geordie Shore newcomer daughter was made, the quartet burst into their song, which was also a mash-up with 5ive and Queen's We Will Rock You.

But the public weren't on their side.

Taking to Twitter to slam the foursome, the vehement put downs came in thick and fast.

'Backstreets back... ummmm NO!' came the first in a string of catty comments.

'Shouldn't they be renamed Embarrassing Dads??' questioned someone else.

'NO NOBODY SHOULD EVER DO THIS EXCEPT BACKSTREET BOYS NO!' screamed a third.

A fourth asked: 'The Boyz are a joke right? Like, genuinely there for a laugh?'

'Cringing' was a popular description of the act, with several tweets cropping up like 'Oooh cringe', 'Cringy dad dancing klaxon' and 'Sometimes #BGT makes me cringe so much I leave my own livingroom'.

Others were left furiously passionate about the group: 'Singing rugby w**kers, just f**k right off!'

'Mummy make it stop!' quipped another, as someone else came up with the hashtag: '#JedwardDidItBetter'

'Lads. Lads. Just go for a f**king pint. You're fully grown blokes. Stop f**king about,' typed another.

'"We're different" - because we can't sing,' another posted, referring to the group's declaration that they offered something new and fresh to the music world.

'C**pstreets back NOT alright,' came another quip as another wrote: ''It's the definition of a mid-life crisis!'

Abbie spoke to Digital Spy about her father, claiming to be 'over the moon' about him appearing on the talent show.

'Dad and the lads work so, so hard and I know they do it ‘cos they love entertaining people. Every time I watch him I feel so proud. I think The Boyz are brilliant and I hope the judges agree!'
