Michelle Williams is resplendent in a glittering, form-fitting black gown as she joins effortlessly stylish co-star Julianne Moore for the premiere of their movie Wonderstruck at 70th annual Cannes Film Festival

After putting on the most stylish of displays at a photocall for their new movie Wonderstruck on Thursday afternoon, Michelle Williams and Julianne Moore pulled out all the stops for the big premiere later that evening.

Stepping out for the second day of the 70th annual Cannes Film Festival, Michelle glided onto the expansive red carpet at the iconic Palais des Festivals in a glittering, form-fitting black dress, which featured a plunging neckline.

Her floor-length number boasted capped sleeves, which - when blended with her bleached and chopped pixie cut - gave the 36-year-old actress a sleek and polished futuristic look.

The extra material capping the sleeves of the mother of one's stunning gown culminated in a gathering of material at the base of her backless number, giving it something of a cape-like appearance.

And while the gown - which featured a darkened panel down the front, was cut at the perfect length to graze the red carpet laid out for the festival, a thigh-high slit added an edgy touch.

Michelle opted to forgo accessories, going jewellery-free as she allowed her gown to do all of the glittering on her behalf. She also went light and minimal on the makeup, letting her natural beauty shine through.

Not to be outdone, 56-year-old screen siren Julianne made quite the entrance at the show-stopping screening, gracing the red carpet in a textured white midi dress, which boasted a feathered overlay.

Standing tall in a pair of silver strappy heels, the Oscar-winning actress teamed her gown with a large, glittering statement ring on each of her hands, while oversized diamond curled earrings added a further touch of pizzazz.

Her signature fiery red tresses rested about her shoulders in a series of soft waves, while her alabaster complexion was given dusted with a light application of naturally-hued makeup.

Ahead of the big premiere, the actresses also wowed at the movie's photocall earlier in the day, as Michelle stepped out sporting a thigh-grazing look alongside her glamorous co-star Julianne.

Soaking up the French Riviera sunshine, the American screen siren was a vision of beauty as she posed for snaps ahead of her new flick's premiere.

Feel flirty in a flutter sleeve with Michelle's Louis Vuitton dress

She's somewhat of a muse to French design house Louis Vuitton so it's no surprise to see Michelle Williams wearing a dress by the iconic label on the red-carpet at tonight's event at Cannes Film Festival.

We adore the midnight blue hue contrasted with a subtle lighter fabric and off-set with twinkling diamante detail. The frill cap sleeves and ruffle cape feature add the finishing flourishes.

It looks amazing on Michelle who eschewed any form of accessories save for one bling-tastic cocktail ring. It's all about the sparkle tonight clearly!

For us, it's also all about those cute frill sleeves too. Ruffles and frills were huge this season and popped up on the catwalk at the likes of Saint Laurent, Gucci, Louis Vuitton and more.

It's the perfect eveningwear trend to try and the high-street has some great styles to get the look. Our favorite has to be Topshop's angel sleeve number but the picks by TFNC, True Decadence and James Lakeland are also perfect for giving a nod to Michelle's Louis Vuitton original.

Showing off her enviably long and lean legs, the Oscar nominee dazzled in a printed floral mini dress with dramatic flared detailing on the shoulders.

Cinching in at her slender waist, the garment highlighted her sensational figure whilst remaining demure, grazing the tops of her tanned and toned thighs.

Giving her diminutive frame an extra boost, the stunning starlet donned a pair of barely there black heels, whilst her only accessory was a pair of beige circular shades.

Boasting her pixie crop, the mother-of-one worked a fresh beauty look with a glowing rose blush across her cheeks.

Elsewhere, Julianne looked incredible in her emerald green ankle-skimming dress which highlighted her narrow waist with a fabric black belt.

Her choice of garment accentuated her radiant alabaster skin and flame-coloured hair as she tackled a number of steps towards the cinematic event.

The Oscar winner teamed her fashion forward look with a pair of black platform sandals and kooky retro inspired shades.

Michelle stars as Elaine in Wonderstruck, alongside Julianne, Oakes Fegley and Amy Hargreaves in the eagerly anticipated movie.

The film, which is adapted from a novel by Brian Selznick, covers two different time periods, telling the story of a young boy in the Midwest and a girl in New York.

Wonderstruck is competing for Palme d'Or - the most esteemed prize at the festival.

Wonderstruck is one of 49 films being screened at this year's festival with two of the final flicks produced by streaming service Netflix - Okja and The Meyerowitz Stories.

However the decision to include them didn't go down well with film purists and since the cinematic event has announced that from 2018 only movies set to be released on the big screen will be considered for selection.
