His debut solo single Sign of the Times reached number one in the UK charts.

And now Harry Styles is giving fans an insight into how he made his chart-topping album.

In a trailer for Harry Styles: Behind the Album, the former One Direction star gets his hair cut, is covered in plaster of paris and relaxes in Jamaica.

The singer, 23, who famously cut his hair for a photoshoot with Another Man magazine, is filmed clasping his hand over his eyes in anticipation. 

When the hairdresser starts cutting away at his chestnut locks, he gives the camera a cheeky grin and laughs. 

In the trailer for the documentary, he said: 'I kind of wanted to see if I could write something that people liked without knowing everything about me.

'Anytime you're doing anything different, it's scary.'

In a much more relaxing scene, the singer is filmed chilling on a surfboard in Jamaica, one of the places where he recorded his album.

Harry also recorded his album in the famous Abbey Road studios in London and he is filmed writing music for the studio on a typewriter.

The group, made up of Harry, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan and Liam Payne, recorded five albums together and enjoyed four UK number one singles. 

In March 2015, Zayn announced he was leaving the band and the group later went on hiatus. 

Harry released his eponymous album on May 12 and Harry Styles: Behind the Album will be released on Apple Music soon.
