Staring into each other's eyes, the couple - who have been married for almost four years - could have passed for newlyweds with their romantic red carpet display.

Kate teamed her elegant gown with flat black pointed shoes and clutched a small box-shaped bag in her hands as she wowed at the philanthropic event, held in association with the Coalition to Abolish Slavery and Trafficking.

The annual gala is an evening that brings together survivors, celebrities, civic leaders and socially-conscious entrepreneurs for the cause of ending modern slavery.

Kate completed her red carpet look by with low-key make-up to accentuate her naturally striking features.

The actress certainly wasn't let down in the sartorial department by her handsome husband, who complemented her look in a slick black tailored suit, which he teamed with a crisp white shirt and black tie.

Earlier in the evening, the couple were seen strolling hand-in-hand to a boutique in West Hollywood, perhaps stocking up on a couple of last minute bits before heading to the gala.

Kate has previously spoken of her love of dressing up on the red carpet, but admitted it took some time for her to accept her body type.

Speaking to Fashion magazine earlier this year, she said: 'I’ll look at someone like Beyoncé and say, "That dress is so amazing on her," but I know that my body type is completely different.

'I have more of a boyish figure, so anything that’s too loose or shapeless isn’t the most flattering for me.

'When it comes to dressing up, I don’t have any anxiety at all - it’s actually something I really enjoy.

'It’s the quickest way to communicate a feeling - culturally and individually, clothing can represent something about our time or what is going on inside us. Fashion is the most immediate way to see something evolve.'

Kate and Michael - who has a daughter Jasper, 19, from his previous marriage - met when he directed her in a cinematic adaptation of Jack Kerouac’s 1962 novel Big Sur in 2011.

The couple tied the knot two years later in a romantic ceremony in Philipsburg, Montana, in August 2013.

Speaking in an interview with British Marie Claire magazine in January 2015, Kate admitted she was cautious about rushing into a relationship with her director while they were filming on set in California.

She explained: 'There are so many people that hook up on movies, and you wonder if that's real, so we didn't go there.

'I think we were both experienced to know that if this was the real deal, we could wait to see what would happen.'

Having adopted a patient approach to her romance with the director, Kate admits it wasn’t long before she discovered he was ‘The One'.

She recalled: 'That's when it hit me, at about a million miles an hour – I almost fell off my chair. They always say, "You know when you know," and I had found that quite frustrating my whole life.

'I thought, "Yeah, but how do you really know?" But it's true – he walked in and it hit me, like nothing I'd ever felt before…

'Meeting Michael honestly felt like coming home. It feels comfortable and secure but also exciting.'

It's an exciting time career-wise for Kate Bosworth at present, as she is starring in the National Geographic channel's scripted military drama The Long Road Home.

The eight-episode mini series is based on the true events of April 4, 2004, when a platoon from the 1st Cavalry Division in Fort Hood, Texas, was ambushed in Sadr City in Baghdad.

Kate plays the wife of an officer, played by Jason Ritter, who leads the rescue mission for the embattled platoon.
