'They probably don't want us showing them up!' Pippa Middleton's fish and chip shop owner cousin on why he didn't get an invite to the wedding of the year

  • Peter Beedle is owner of Beedle's Chippy, in Bishop Auckland, County Durham
  • Peter is related to the Middleton clan through his 84-year-old mother
  • His mother, Shirley, is a cousin of Kate's grandmother Dorothy Harrison
  • That makes him a second cousin to Kate and Pippa
  • He will sell Kate's Kod and Pippa's Mushy Peas in honour of the wedding

There will be no invite to Pippa Middleton's lavish wedding for the family's fish and chip shop owning relatives.

Peter Beedle, who is the proud owner of Beedle's Chippy, in Bishop Auckland, County Durham, said: 'They probably don't want us showing them up!'

Instead, the 54-year-old will be selling specials Kate's Kod and Pippa's Mushy Peas on the big day tomorrow while the Duchess' sister walks down the aisle to marry banking tycoon James Matthews.

Peter is related to the Middleton clan through his 84-year-old mother, Shirley, who is a cousin of Kate's grandmother Dorothy Harrison. That makes him a second cousin to the 35-year-old Duchess of Cambridge and her younger sister Pippa, 33, and directly links him to the royal family.

Father-of-two Peter, married to Karen, 53, said: 'Unfortunately we have not been invited to the wedding. But that does not bother me at all. I wouldn't be able to get there anyway!

'It's a very happy time for Pippa, and I wish them all the very best, and a lot of happiness. 'At the end of the day they are our family, and we are very happy for them.

'We'll be putting on some specials tomorrow: Kate's Kod and Pippa's Mushy Peas. There's a lot of banter in the shop about us being related to royals. It is a definite talking point.'

Peter, whose family found out about the connection through the press when Kate married Prince William in 2011, says Pippa's grandmother Dorothy was known for being a great seamstress.

HOW PIPPA AND PETER ARE RELATED

Peter is related to the Middleton clan through his 84-year-old mother, Shirley, who is a cousin of Kate's grandmother Dorothy Harrison.

That makes him a second cousin to the 35-year-old Duchess of Cambridge and her younger sister Pippa, 33, and directly links him to the royal family.

He added: 'I think Pippa and Kate might have inherited their fashion sense from Dorothy. My mum always says she was a fantastic seamstress. My mum is too. She looked a bit like Kate when she was younger.

'She was very pretty and once crowned Beauty Queen of Ferryhill, which is where the family come from originally.

'Dorothy, Carol Middleton's mother, moved to London and set the course of family fortunes on a completely different path.'

In a strange co-incidence Peter married his wife Karen at St Helen's Church in West Auckland on July 23 1986 - the very same day Prince Andrew married Sarah Ferguson.

Peter said: 'Our wedding was a low key affair. It was just a normal wedding. It would have been in stark contrast to Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson's wedding.

'I know Pippa's been criticised in the press for how much money has been spent on the wedding, but it's up to them.

'They want to have a day they will remember for the rest of their lives. You can't blame them. If you have the money, you may as well spend it.

'I honestly wish them all the best, and hope they are really happy together.'

Pippa will marry James, 41, at her local family St Mark's Church in Englefield where around 100 guests are expected. More than 300 will attend the reception at the Middleton's home in Buckleberry, Berkshire, where it has been reported a £100,000 marquee has been erected.
