Product Description

Floxin or Ofloxacin is a prescription drug that is used to treat a wide variety of infections caused by bacteria. It was approved by FDA in the year 1990 for its use as ear and eye drops. This drug is a mixture that contains equal amounts of the active ingredient levofloxacin and its enantiomer dextrofloxacin. Floxin is listed as one among the most important medication needed in day to day life on the WHO Model List of Essential Medicines, which is published by the World Health Organization (WHO).

Medical Uses

Floxin is mostly used as an eye drop to treat pink eye, which is characterized by inflammation of the conjunctiva (a thin transparent membrane that covers the inner surface of the eyelids). Also, the drug is prescribed to help in the treatment of few sexually transmitted diseases and infections like pneumonia and bronchitis. As the drug can be used on a regular basis it can also be bought in a large amount by people who use them frequently.

Proper way of taking Floxin

The medication is available in oral as well as ear and eye drop formulation. The tablet has to be taken orally two times a day for nearly 3 days to 6 weeks. Take Floxin with or without food but it is advised to be taken at the same time every day to keep a record of medication. Dosage strength and duration of treatment depends on the type of infection the person is suffering from.

When using the ear drop formulation, the method to take Floxin is to pour the drops in the opening of the ear canal either once or twice a day. A change can be noticed in about 1 to 2 weeks. A person should be very careful while taking this ear drop as he is not supposed to use it for eyes.

The eye drops should be applied only upon removing the contact lenses which can be put again after 10 minutes. They are usually applied to the affected eye about 4 to 6 times a day.

Side Effects

People who experience allergic reactions like swelling of face, throat or lips are not supposed to take this medication. There are more possibilities for it to happen when people take fake generic Floxin online as taking the fake or counterfeit drugs may increase the intensity of side effects.

People who experience severe sensitivity to light while taking Floxin are supposed to consult their doctor immediately. Other side effects, the information of which must be taken to the physician immediately include vision changes, skin peeling, confusions or hallucinations.

Interactions with other drugs

Drug interaction is possible when it is taken together with other antibiotics, insulin, and few antidepressants. To avoid such interactions, it is better to consult a doctor before you start taking Floxin.

Drugs mentioned below can interact with Floxin and hence should be avoided taking together.

Missing a dose and overdose

You should always take this medicine on time so that you will not pave way for missing a dose. If you have missed a dose of Floxin, then take it as soon as you remember. If it is already time for the next dose, then it is better you skip the current dose and take the scheduled dose. Do not consume two doses of Floxin at once to make up for the missed dose as doing so can lead to unnecessary and unwanted consequences. For overdose cases, call for emergency helpline or poison control immediately.
