Salman Abedi (inset) killed 22 people and injured at least 119 more when he detonated a bomb at Manchester Arena on Monday night as children were piling out of the venue having watched Ariana Grande. But this afternoon the father of the attacker, Ramadan Abedi (right), said: 'We don't believe in killing innocents. This is not us.' He said he had spoken to his 22-year-old son five days ago and that he sounded 'normal' and was getting ready to visit Saudi Arabia. Earlier, pictures emerged showing Abedi lounging on the beach in Libya (circled, left) with friends and hanging out with his mates in Manchester as a teenager. There is no suggestion any of the people he was pictured with have been involved in any wrongdoing.

Her adoptive mother says the decision came after her police chiefs found out about her biological mother's neglect including her conviction for murder and Lyudmila's feral upbringing.
When Iran and America were allies: Photographs from 1943 show how the Middle East nation helped with World War Two efforts and even welcomed Polish refugees
While they are bitter enemies today, America and Iran shared a strong alliance during the Second World War as the Allies used the country as a supply route to help Russia battle Hitler. The so-called Persian Corridor, established by the newly-installed and pro-American Mohammed Reza Shah, was used to transport millions of tonnes of food, equipment and weapons to the Red Army in order to help defeat Hitler's forces (left). Hundreds of American troops were also stationed in the country (top left) and helped the new Shah stabilise his rule (top right). The country even accepted refugees from Europe who were fleeing the conflict (bottom right, Polish refugees in Tehran). Cooperation between Iran and America continued for decades afterward, until the Shah was deposed in 1979 and replaced with Ayatollah Khomeini, who branded the US 'Great Satan'.
