Shocking video shows a high-speed crash between a bus and car resulting in one driver losing part of her leg

A traffic camera in Kalamazoo, Michigan, captured the moment a city bus and a car crashed into one another at an intersection Wednesday evening, leaving at least six people injured.

According to a press release from the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety, the head-on collision took place at 7.22pm at Oakland and South streets.

The passenger car had pinned the bus driver in her vehicle, and both drivers had to be extricated from the wreckage using special equipment.

A Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety officer who stopped at a red light and witnessed the crash was the first on the scene to help the victims.

Both injured drivers were rushed to an area hospital and taken into emergency surgery. Police said the bus operator had to have part of her leg amputated.

Both drivers were listed in critical but stable condition Thursday morning.

At the time of the crash, six passengers were riding on board the bus. Four of them had to be transported to Bronson Methodist Hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries. None of the victims has been named.

Passenger Chanell McPherson recounted for WOOD-TV how she and the other bus riders climbed out the windows to safety with the help of paramedics.

Police told Mlive.com the bus driver had the right-of-way and was not at fault in the crash.

According to investigators, speed is believed to be a factor in the crash.
