SCOTLAND (3-5-2)

Craig Gordon - Question marks over his role for both England goals. A disappointing afternoon. 5.5

Ikechi Anya - Busy down the right side and kept Bertrand occupied. Lacked genuine quality, however. 6.5

Christophe Berra - Strong in the tackle and kept his cool in a highly pressurised environment. 7.5

Charlie Mulgrew - Marshalled the Scotland defence expertly. Kicked, blocked and headed it. 7.5

Kieran Tierney - Well positioned to clear Kane's effort off the line. Not hard to see why he's destined to move south. 7

Robert Snodgrass - In the thick of the action but couldn't unlock the door before being substituted. 6

Scott Brown - Walked a tightrope after third minute booking. Couldn't impose himself on the game as a result.

James Morrison - Kept things ticking over nicely in central midfield before being substituted at half-time. 6

ENGLAND (4-2-3-1)

Gary Cahill - The Chelsea captain looked to have everything under control until the crazy ending. 6.5

Chris Smalling - Shock selection ahead of John Stones. But for a couple of uncomfortable moments justified his selection. 6.5

Ryan Bertrand - Solid at left back and snuffed out the threat posed by Anya comfortably. 7

Eric Dier - Does what Eric Dier does. Shielded his back four and kept things ticking over in midfield. Booked. 6.5

Jake Livermore - Questionable decision by Southgate to start him, but emerged as as England's best player. 7.5
