White water rafting in Gunnison Colorado

Below are some clips from the local white water rafting companies in Gunnison Colorado. Rafting is very popular so be sure to plan ahead when booking a trip. Colorado’s Black Canyon White Water Rafting!

The Gunnison Gorge in western Colorado is a National Conservation Area and is adjacent to the newly created Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. This 14-mile stretch of gold medal trout water has been nominated for "Wild and Scenic River" designation. Here below the many dams of the national park, the clear green water slips between spectacular towering black granite cliffs, dropping first into glassy pools and then plunging into foaming rapids. The scenery and geology of the Gunnison Gorge is reminiscent of the Grand Canyon of the Colorado. Website Link

Rafting and Kayaking

Rafters and kayakers will find much to enjoy among the many rivers and creeks in the Gunnison Country but the Gunnison and Taylor Rivers provide the most excitement. Duckies, which are user-friendly, self-bailing inflatable kayaks, are also popular on area waters. Area guides offer all types of craft and all types of trips, from non-threatening float trips to rodeo-worthy whitewater adventures.
The lively Taylor River froths through one of the most beautiful canyons in Colorado, lined with dense forest and cliffs (look for bighorn sheep, deer and elk). Big waves, rocks, eddies and tricky passages spice up the ride. The Lake Fork promises adrenaline during the early summer run-off. It runs at bigger volume than the Taylor, with rollercoaster rapids and larger holes. Website Link

Taylor River Rafting

The Taylor River is Gunnison County's most popular river adventure. The Taylor River is divided into three sections that can be enjoyed solo or combined for a full day of rafting fun. The upper is the most popular with a consistent flow of class III rapids geared for the first timer or experienced rafters. The Lower is a more mellow and great relaxing float trip with mostly Class II and III waters. The Lotis Creek is the advanced portion and recommended only for experienced paddlers. Website Link
