See You Again paid homage to The Fast And The Furious franchise star Paul Walker, who died in 2013 when his Porsche Carrera crashed into two trees and a lamppost.

Gangnam Style ribbed the well-heeled Gangnam District of Seoul and was the first YouTube video to earn a billion views.

When it hit 2.1 billion - back then thought to be the most views a YouTube video could ever get - the engineers at YouTube had to 'make changes,' per AFP.

By around midmorning PST this Tuesday, See You Again had clocked more than 2.896 billion views, Gangnam Style over 2.894 billion.

There have now been been 68 videos - 65 of them music videos - to rack up a billion views on YouTube.

Before Gangnam Style hit YouTube's number one spot in 2012, the music video for Baby with Justin Bieber and Ludacris had held that position.

Wiz told BET in 2015 that when he'd been writing See You Again, 'My whole objective was to make something that everybody can connect with.'

To him: 'It feels personal, but it’s something that everybody can feel too. It’s not so personal that you’re disconnected to it. Basically, that was my mindframe for it,' he explained.

'Think about family in general. Not necessarily my family or someone else’s family that everybody goes through in that situation.'
