Lily Collins looks preppy in a backpack and summer dress for solo day in LA... as her decision to slim down for To The Bone is criticised by anorexia charities

She has insisted that making a series about anorexia has been therapeutic for overcoming her own eating disorder demons.

Which is why Lily Collins was able to brush off criticism about To The Bone on Monday, when she stepped out in West Hollywood, CA.

Lily, 28, looked carefree on a visit to Restoration Hardware in a pretty floral dress, after charities targeted her ‘alarmingly frail’ and ‘skeletal’ frame in the Netflix show.

The brunette was wearing a floral dress and lace up ballet flats for a solo day out in the sun.

Looking preppy, she carried a cute pink backpack on one shoulder before digging into it to find her money.

Lily is currently cutting a healthier figure than scenes in which she plays Ellen, who is desperately trying to face up to her anorexia battle.

Charities have warned that Lily's decision to lose a large amount of weight for the role could lead to copycat behaviour among impressionable teens.

And there are fears her appearance could cause a new wave of cases, after pro-anorexia websites labelled the actress a ‘thinspiration’ when its trailer was released online.

The trailer can be seen on YouTube and Netflix and has so far been watched by more than 2.2million. The film could also be watched by small children if parental controls are not put in place.

'There's a fine line between, are you going to fall back into it, are you not?' she explained to Elle.com.

The actress has admitted to struggling with a crippling eating disorder as a teenager and initially felt apprehensive about revisiting some 'unhealthy' habits.

'I was so aware of why I was doing it,' she continued. 'For a greater purpose — and also I was more mature.

'None of the reasons that had kickstarted my disorder in the past applied anymore.'
