No jet lag here! Ivanka and Jared go for a run together after returning to DC following Hamburg trip where critics blasted the First Daughter for taking over for her dad during G20 session

  • Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner went for a trail run in Washington, DC's Rock Creek Park on Sunday
  • The run came a day after the couple returned home from the G20 leaders summit in Hamburg, Germany
  • Ivanka took on a lead role at the G20, where she filled in for her father and led an event on entrepreneurship
  • Also Sunday, it was reported that Kushner met with a Russian lawyer after Trump won presidential nomination

Ivanka Trump and husband Jared Kushner went on a run together in Washington, DC, a day after arriving back home from the G20 Summit.

The run came a day after the couple returned from Hamburg, where Ivanka played a prominent role in the G20 and was slammed by critics for filling in for President Donald Trump during summit meetings.

On the same day of the couple's run, reports revealed that Kushner met with a Russian lawyer shortly after Trump won the Republican nomination last year.

Having arrived back in Washington just a day earlier, Ivanka and Kushner looked unbothered by jet lag as they jogged through a trail in north DC's Rock Creek Park.

Ivanka Trump took on an unexpected role at last weekend's G20, with her filling in for her father in one summit meeting and later heading her own event on entrepreneurship.

The president's daughter attracted particular attention after a member of the Russian delegation tweeted a photograph of her sitting in her father's chair during an official summit event on Saturday.

A White House official said the president had stepped out of the room and that Ivanka Trump, a senior adviser, moved forward from the back of the room when the head of the World Bank discussed topics particularly relevant to her.

The official spoke on condition of anonymity to describe a private meeting.

The 35-year-old former fashion model sat down next to Xi Jinping, Angela Merkel and Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Hamburg, diplomats and the White House confirmed.

The incident fuelled allegations of nepotism against the US leader, who has put family members in top White House positions.

Her move into her father's seat at the summit went too far in the view of some critics, who took to Twitter to highlight the moment.

Historian Anne Applebaum took to Twitter to denounce what she described 'an unelected, unqualified, unprepared New York socialite' being seen as 'the best person to represent American national interests'.

But Merkel told reporters that delegations decide for themselves who sits at the table when their president isn't there, and she said Ivanka Trump's actions were perfectly acceptable, given her role in the administration.

'Ivanka Trump belonged to the American delegation, so that is in line with what other delegations do. And it is known that she works at the White House and carries responsibility for certain initiatives,' she said.

Trump tweeted about the incident on Monday morning, writing: 'When I left Conference Room for short meetings with Japan and other countries, I asked Ivanka to hold seat. Very standard. Angela M agrees!'

He added: 'If Chelsea Clinton were asked to hold the seat for her mother,as her mother gave our country away, the Fake News would say CHELSEA FOR PRES!'

Chelsea Clinton responded to the tweet, saying: 'Good morning Mr. President. It would never have occurred to my mother or my father to ask me. Were you giving our country away? Hoping not.'

Ivanka Trump also led her own event at the G20 to launch a new World Bank fund to help drive women's entrepreneurship.

The event drew a number of the summit's biggest stars, with remarks by her father, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

'She's got her certain issues that she focuses on, and when those things come up, then that's where she is and that's what she likes to focus on,' Nikki Haley, US Ambassador to the United Nations, told CBS's 'Face the Nation.'

'I think she sees herself as part of a public servant family, and she doesn't want to waste this time by not putting forward some effort to try and help the world,' Haley added.

Meanwhile, it was revealed over the weekend that Ivanka's husband, Jared Kushner, met with a Russian lawyer shortly after Trump won the Republican nomination.

Add a feminine frock to your wardrobe like Ivanka

Ivanka Trump attends the G20 Summit with a female entrepreneurs project at hand and she promotes another female entrepreneur just by her dress! The modern but feminine pink bow embellished dress is by Roksanda.

Roksanda, a Serbian-born, London-based, female immigrant designer is well known for her focus on sculptural tailoring and sharp use of color.

The first daughter is a strong supporter of working women so for her to wearing a design by another working mother is encouraging.

The oversized bows at the arms adds a bit of whimsy to this delicately colored dress. Sadly this exact dress is now sold out but buy the sheath version with the same bow sleeves at Saks Fifth Avenue with a click to the right.

The June 2016 meeting appears to be the earliest known private meeting between key aides to the president and a Russian.

Also in the room were Donald Trump Jr and Trump's then-campaign manager Paul Manafort.

The New York Times, citing advisers briefed on the meeting, reported that Trump Jr attended the meeting after being promised 'damaging information' about his father's Democratic rival Hillary Clinton.

The younger Trump said in a statement to the Times that the lawyer, Natalia Veselnitskaya, 'stated that she had information that individuals connected to Russia were funding the Democratic National Committee and supporting Mrs Clinton.'

'It quickly became clear that she had no meaningful information,' he said, adding that the lawyer then began discussing the adoption of Russian children by American couples under a program Putin had suspended.

The president's son said he gathered that the adoption issue was 'the true agenda all along and that the claims of potentially helpful information were a pretext for the meeting.

'Kushner's lawyer Jamie Gorelick said her client already disclosed the meeting in a revised filing of a form that requires him to list meetings with foreign agents.

'Mr. Kushner has submitted additional updates and included, out of an abundance of caution, this meeting with a Russian person, which he briefly attended at the request of his brother-in-law, Donald Trump Jr. As Mr. Kushner has consistently stated, he is eager to cooperate and share what he knows,' she said.
