False lashes are too pricey and require too much effort to apply to be tossed in the trash after just one wear. Huda Kattan and her followers are in full agreement.
The beauty guru revealed how she gets twenty wears out of one pair of falsies in an Instagram video last week, and the post racked up 1.5 million views in 24 hours.
The key, she demonstrates, is to treat your false lashes like you would your real lashes and gently cleanse them after each use.
Lash queen: Beauty vlogger Huda Kattan revealed the trick to getting up to 20 wears out of your false lashes in a new Instagram video
The tools: In the video, which has received upwards of 1.5 million views, Huda demonstrates how to make lashes look like new with make-up remover, tweezers and cotton pads
In the video, Huda carefully removes the glue from the lashes with a tweezer. Next, she lightly presses each strip between two make-up remover-soaked cotton pads (she uses Bioderma Miceller Solution) for 30 seconds.
She then removes any additional mascara and residue with a cotton swab and places the lashes back in their original packaging.
'If you attach them firmly to the band and press them down this will help curl them,' Huda notes on her blog.
One commenter called the hack 'literally life changing', while another wrote 'this could possibly be the best tutorial of my life'.
STEP 1: Huda presses false lashes in between two cleanser-soaked cotton pads for 30 seconds. STEP 2: She then removes any leftover make-up and residue with a cotton swab
Just like new: The beauty guru recommends storing your lashes in the original packaging to keep them clean and from losing their shape
While Huda's tricks are undoubtedly game-changing, it also helps that the quality of false lashes has come a long way over the years.
Mic.com took a look back at the beauty product's history recently, and found that in the 1800s, women would achieve the long-lash look by getting a strand of human hair sewed into their top lash line.
Then, in the early 1900s, actress Seena Owen got human hair glued onto her eyelids with spirit gum for a role in the film Intolerance. While the treatment caused her eyes to become swollen shut, it inspired a beauty trend among the masses.
According to the site, false lashes became even more popular - and safer - during the 1930s, and by the '50s, the product was being made out of thin plastic instead of hair.
Lash icons: Twiggy was a lash trendsetter in the 1960s, while Madonna was known to wear mink lashes embellished with real diamonds in the early 2000s
Model-approved: Jourdan Dunn turned heads with a pair of fluttery false lashes from the brand Artemes at the MTV Movie and TV Awards in May
Today, nearly all celebrities frequently use falsies to enhance their lashes for red carpet events and performances - some more conspicuously than others.
Madonna made headlines in the mid-2000s when she wore diamond-encrusted mink lashes on tour created by her make-up artist and former Shu Uemura artistic director Gina Brooke. There was such a demand for the look that Shu Uemura made them available to purchase for a cool $10,000 a pair.
Thankfully, you don't need ten grand to get your hands on celeb-loved lashes. Shop pairs for every budget below.
