Seizing the seat of power! Daenerys approaches the throne at Dragonstone in dramatic new Game Of Thrones still

She has been plotting to seize the kingdom of Westeros for years.

And it seems Daenerys Targaryen will take an almighty step towards her goal after she was shown approaching the throne at Dragonstone in newly released Game Of Thrones stills.

It is likely to be a key moment, as the castle was her family's original seat of power in the lore of George RR Martin's hit series of books.

The seventh season of Game Of Thrones airs this Sunday, and, in an ominous move, the debut episode is titled Dragonstone.

In the thrilling snap Daenerys can be seen climbing the steps towards the throne, which appears to have been carved out solid rock, in the royal hall.

Her character has not been there since she was a child, and her mother Queen Rhaella is said to have died giving birth to her in the keep following Robert's Rebellion.

The legendary fortress had been held by Robert's brother Stannis, but he himself died outside Winterfell following his own disastrous attempt to snatch the throne during the War Of The Five Kings

Another snap is of a thoughtful looking Cersei Lannister, played by Lena Headey. 

Given the way she is pensively staring into the distance, it seems she has much on her mind despite seizing the throne for herself at the end of the last season.

Not least of her worries is the fact Daenerys and her massive army will surely soon be marching south to have her head on a stick.

Her shocked brother and lover Jaime was seen watching her crowning ceremony with horror, and it remains to be seen whether he will once again swallow his pride to stand at her side.

Given how the White Walker of the Night's King will soon be at his doorstep at The Wall, he is sure to be a more prominent character this season. 

Season seven began filming in August of 2016; this season will only have season episodes - instead of the normal 10.

The seventh season will air from July 16 until August 27; The series will end after season eight.

Other stars like Kit Harington, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Peter Dinklage are set to return.
