Randi Zurenko, 34, was jailed on Thursday after pleading guilty to having sexual relations with two female teenage students while teaching at a Pennsylvania Catholic high school. She begged the judge for leniency for the sake of her own young children when being sentenced. The mother of five was jailed for up to 23 months with four years probation and must register as a sex offender for 25 years. She had been charged with more than 200 child sex offences during her time as a teacher at Bishop McDevitt High School in Harrisburg.

A federal jury has awarded $7million in damages to the family of a woman killed by two police officers in Madison, Wisconsin, on Thursday, saying the officers used unreasonable force. The civil lawsuit was brought by relatives of 26-year-old Ashley DiPiazza, who was shot to death in 2014 while holed up at her apartment with a gun. Dane County prosecutors previously cleared the officers, Gary Pihlaja (inset left) and Justin Bailey, of any criminal liability during the incident in which they shot DiPiazza 11 times. Russian man rescues a freezing kitten and adopts it

But when one eagle-eyed driver stopped to have a closer look, he found a six-month-old kitten nearly frozen to death. So the man, Slava, wrapped the immobile creature in a towel and rushed her home to warm up. He later decided to adopt the adorable feline, and named her Nika. She had to have her frostbitten tail amputated but otherwise made a full recovery and now has a loving home with Slava.

Pregnant raccoon breaks into a convertible and gives birth

A pregnant raccoon crawled into a car in Manatee County, Florida on Wednesday morning and gave birth to two cubs in the backseat. The mother and her baby destroyed the car peeing in it and scratching all over. One cub was found in the car while the other was found stuck in the trunk, soaking wet.

Stunned eyewitnesses in the town of Progreso de Madero in southern Mexico filmed what appears to be a huge black ring surrounded by smoke in the sky.

The manta ray was caught by a Brazilian fisherman off the southern coast. Measuring almost ten feet, the beast got tangled in the fishing tackles. Fishermen helped it escape (pictured).

The elderly couple (pictured), believed to be from the US, can be seen in the heartwarming clip published online today. As the man leans over his wife, he chats with her, and sweetly points out that she has done the same thing for him in the past. 'I've never combed yours before, Nellie,' the husband says as she arranges his wife's hair. 'This is the first time for this, you know.' He is clearly eager to do a good job and to make sure he doesn't miss a spot. While he holds the comb with one hand, he uses his other hand to gently smooth Nellie's hair in a delicate gesture.
