Matthew 'Matty J' Johnson confirmed over the weekend he was 'very, very happy' after finding love while filming The Bachelor Australia.

And now fans will be able to follow his journey, as a start date for the fifth season of Network Ten's flagship dating show has been announced.

The new series will begin in under two weeks' time, with the premiere episode airing from 7:30pm on Wednesday July 26th.

The Bachelor, which is produced by Warner Bros. Television, will air twice-weekly on Wednesdays and Thursdays, like previous seasons.

Network Ten made the announcement via the show's official Instagram account on Sunday, sharing a promotional photo of Matty J holding a red rose.

The latest series has the tagline, 'Let the fireworks begin'.

As Ten confirmed the news, Matty posted an 'excited' throwback photo taken on the day he was offered the role of The Bachelor.

'This photo was taken just moments after I received a phone call, which confirmed I would be the next Bachelor,' he wrote in the caption.

'I have the same feeling now knowing my story will begin on Channel 10, Wednesday July 26... just a little excited!'

The identity of the winner is a closely-guarded industry secret, however there has been fan speculation jewellery designer Laura Byrne captured Matty's heart.

Matty, a 30-year-old marketing manager from Sydney, was left devastated after placing second on The Bachelorette last year.

Former WIN News journalist Georgia Love eventually chose mechanical plumber Lee Elliott as her winning beau.
