Fans of the hit ITV talent show had fallen over themselves after it was reported Simon, 57, had tempted the Call My Name hitmaker, 34, back into the X Factor fold as a guest judge, with a rumoured £500,000 pay packet.

Mail Online has contacted representatives for Simon and Cheryl for comment.
The admission comes as somewhat of a surprise as Simon recently revealed how happy he was for Cheryl after she became a mother for the first time in March when she welcomed son Bear.
The chemistry between the pair, which displayed itself in cheeky banter and occasional jokey spats, had become a fan favourite, with Cheryl's original inclusion on the panel in 2008 catapulting her into the frame as a national treasure.

Cheryl first joined The X Factor in 2008. During her time on the show, she mentored two singers to victory - Alexandra Burke in 2008 and Joe McElderry in 2009.
She left the show in 2010 to appear on the American version of the series but she was let go by Simon in 2011 who later admitted he felt something was 'not quite right.'
Former Girls Aloud singer Cheryl later revealed how she sent the music mogul an expletive-filled text message in which she told him: 'I hate you,' and condemned him for not warning her about her sacking face-to-face.
But the pair were soon back to being firm friends and the star returned to the UK version of the show in 2014 and remained a judge for two series.

Alesha Dixon has also been helping with a temporary judging position, filling in for both Nicole and Sharon during the auditions.
