But Melanie Chisholm, 43, looked the picture of health as she displayed her incredibly toned physique while performing at Carfest North on Saturday.
Wearing a black jumpsuit which flaunted her ripped arms, the former Spice Girl put her past demons behind her as she looked happier than ever.

Her black jumpsuit featured a sexy silver zip down the front, and skimmed over her toned torso.
Turning to display her incredibly toned back, the star looked stunning as she wore her ombre tresses in a curled bob.
Mel previously spoke of how she struggled with an eating disorder and exercised obsessively when she was a member of the Spice Girls.

The singer, who shot to fame as one fifth of the iconic girl group in 1996, was dubbed Sporty Spice because of her athletic style and physique.
She told the Telegraph how she severely limited her diet when she became obsessed over the idea of being the perfect pop star.
Speaking to Bryony Gordon, she said: 'I thought I had to be a certain way to be deserving of everything that was happening to me... to be a popstar I had to be perfect, and that was my way of trying to achieve perfection.

'I'd never starved myself, but I wasn't eating properly and I was exercising obsessively and all of my time with the Spice Girls I think I was probably living on adrenaline, God only knows how I got through it and I think my body just got to the point where it was like - enough.'
Alongside her eating disorder, Melanie also battled depression and was diagnosed in 2000 after going on a family holiday.
She revealed how relieved she felt when a doctor diagnosed her with the mental illness as she felt it could then be beaten.

Melanie has combated her depression through a mixture of therapies, acupuncture and medication.
In 2016, Mel refused £2 million to take part in the Spice Girls 20th anniversary concert because of the emotional trauma she faced while she was in the group.
She told the Mail on Sunday in 2016: ‘When the Spice Girls were at their biggest, I couldn’t even really look at myself in the mirror because I didn’t like what I saw.

Even though she became obsessed with exercising while she was in the girl group, Mel is now able to work out at a manageable pace.
She told the Guardian in 2007 that she sees a personal trainer twice a week and yoga helps ease her depression.

Melanie C launched a solo career in 1999, after the Spice Girls went on hiatus.
She hit the top of the UK singles chart twice in 2000 and has since broken on to the West End stage.
She won an Olivier Award for her role as Mrs Johnstone in Blood Brothers and starred as Mary Magdalene in the arena tour of Jesus Christ Superstar.
