Fools Banquet 2009
February 2009
Fools Banquet 2009 featured an all-star cast. Heard of Weird Al Yankovic? He was there. Adam Green? Check. Carrick of Everybody Else? Check. About 9 guest artists attended, as well as Isaac, Taylor, and Zac Hanson. I haven't figured out who everyone in the photos is, so if you have any insider info, let me know!
Fools Banquet isn't all hard work, songwriting, and no sleep. The FB crew took some time off to 'sled' in the snow, paint the annual song-title collage, and have a good ol' campfire singalong.
We haven't heard much else about Fools Banquet 2009. Although a bunch of photos were posted on hanson.net, I wasn't able to track down any official posts or comments about the event.
The Songs (some of them)
I hadn't been able to find any song titles online, but found a few in the FB09 pics on hanson.net. These are my best guesses at some of the song titles:
- Cutting Corners On A Circle
- Terry the tiny soldier
- This is criminal
- Spun around
- Snow Angel
- Beam me up
- Our Time
I've done my best at transcripting some of the lyrics found in the selfesame photos. You can check them out to the right:
You lack imagination, can you imagine any more? You need a mind vacation, you've got your head upon the door.
Untitled 1Don't wanna live the lie, I gotta simplify. Open up my eyes and enjoy the ride. Wouldn't have to try, I got nothin' to hide. It's time to pick a side, cause it's do or die.
Untitled 2I've been on this journey and it's comin' we know. I keep the fires burnin' then you snuff it out. ... That's what it's all about. Once we could agree on all the simple things. Hear a pin drop as you're poppin' each of my heart strings. Now we are the jesters where we once were kings. That's what all the fighting brings. Got my ears wet. Now the table's set. Stuck on the highway while you leave in a jet. Feelin' like an old burned up charcoal barbecue, I guess that's just what I get. You keep me runnin' circles. We were movin' forward then you backed it up. Gave me no warning then you packed it up. Turned a full glass into an empty cup. Just like that. So abrupt. In a great puff of smoke.
Who Showed Up
Adam is one of the solo/indie artists listed on areyoulistening.com in 2005. He posted a few photos of him and Weird Al at Fools Banquet on his myspace, if you want to check them out

Hanson and Carrick have known each other for awhile now. Everybody Else (the band Carrick fronts) first opened for Hanson in 2007. I've met Carrick a few times, and he's always seemed really laid back and easygoing. His band has a great sound.

Har Mar Superstar has a penchant for going onstage in his tighty-whities while doing his electropop thing. He made a quick mention about Fools Banquet 2009 for an article in the Star Tribune - "It was me and Adam at the Hanson brothers' ranch in Oklahoma, with Weird Al Yankovic, the guys from Morningwood, Miles from Fastball," Har Mar recounted by phone from the road last week. "It was intentionally a weird bunch, and really inspiring". You can also check him out as a fighting coach in Barrymore's rollergirl comedy "Whip It!". Love that show.

Weird Al and Hanson go way back - to Hanson's appearance on the Weird Al Show in 1998. Every once in awhile you hear about Hanson and Weird Al hanging out again. In November of 2009 Weird Al joined Hanson onstage to play the tambourine at Club Nokia.

Photo credit goes to Hanson.net for these photos from Fools Banquet 2009: you can check out these photos and more in Hanson's public gallery. Some of the outdoor photos are from Adam Green's semi-creepy photo blog (there are a bunch more there).
Although Natalie's Twitter account calls Taylor's the pyro in the family, you'll see Zac cropping up in more of the fire photos.
Imani plays violin as well as singing and songwriting, and hails from New York. She grew up in a musical family, and is part of the band Little Jackie - the same label that signed Tinted Windows.
