Armed police were called in after British Airways passengers 'went crazy' when their flight to Las Vegas was delayed for two days.

Furious holidaymakers had already been put up in hotels after their original flight from London Heathrow Airport was cancelled on Sunday afternoon due to a technical fault.

On Monday, the passengers boarded the flight and were seconds from take off when the service was axed again - because of a baggage mix-up - sparking angry scenes on board.

People vented their fury at staff and cabin crew alerted the cockpit, who called for armed police, according to The Sun

After four hours on the plane, everyone was hauled off and had to go back into the terminal.

The mix-up meant the passengers had to stay in a Heathrow hotel for a second night, before their flight finally took off for the American party city yesterday afternoon.

But even that did not go smoothly, without problems. Some people took to Twitter to say their bags hadn't arrived - with one holidaymaker learning their luggage flew to Las Vegas before them.

Bianca Chan tweeted: 'So we're finally back in Vegas after the third attempt to depart but decided our bags want to stay an extra day in Heathrow.'

Seb Haikel wrote: 'Oh my god BA this is relentless... how the hell did my bag end up in Vegas when the flight never left? Please explain?'

Emily Joyce said her 'dream honeymoon' has been ruined because of the airline.

In a series of tweets to BA's account, she posted: 'Flight is now cancelled till tomorrow!! Really bad start to our honeymoon.

'Completely understand you need planes to be 100% to fly but can't understand how a huge company can't make other arrangements.

'Can you upgrade us?? We have worked so hard to save for this dream honeymoon and it's been ruined.

'WE'RE NOT GOING AGAIN!!!!! What are you going to do for us?! You need to get us to Vegas today!!!!!!'

The British Airways Twitter account apologised to Ms Joyce, but said they could not offer her and her husband an upgrade.

Jim Allison wrote: 'If you are thinking of flying between London and Las Vegas avoid @British_Airways #BA0275 #BA275 We have been delayed for 2 days. Terrible.'

Mr Allison appeared to ditch BA for America Airlines and thanked them for getting him to Vegas earlier.

He added: 'Congratulations @AmericanAir you did what @British_Airways couldn't do for 2 days in a row...you got us home to Las Vegas!'

American Airlines even poked fun at BA, by replying: 'Welcome back home, Jim. We're always happy to give you a lift. Let's know when you're ready to soar through the skies again.'

A spokeswoman for British Airways said: 'We fully appreciate how frustrating this experience has been, and have apologised to our customers for the long delay to their flight.

'We provided refreshments, hotel accommodation and help with expenses during the delay, and the flight departed yesterday.'

MailOnline has contacted Heathrow Airport for comment.
