John Poppleton, from California, creates mindblowing works of art painted directly onto human skin using fluorescent shades. His project, called Under Black Light, consists of 'bodyscapes' of spectacular natural phenomena such as African sunsets, tropical oceans during rainstorm, and mountain ranges under moonlight. In more otherworldly, eerie designs the artist depicts cosmic scenes of stars, galaxies and shimmering auroras. ...read

Artist, 24, creates stunning sculptures using beaches as her blank canvas just one month after picking up a rake for first time
Chloe Dickey drew a huge floral design on a Port Macquarie beach on Saturday in under two hours. The 24-year-old from Lake Cathie, NSW, works in the wet sand at low tide meaning her drawings don't stick around for long when the waves roll in.
Feline arty! Artist loves her pet cat so much she's added it to works by Botticelli, Dali and even the Mona Lisa
A bizarre but strangely wonderful concept of classic paintings and fine art work 'improved' by a fat ginger cat, Fat Cat Art is rapidly growing its online fan base. The pieces are the work of Russian artist Svetlana Petrova who features her own cat Zarathustra in every picture.

Earl Grey (Moshi Moshi)
London teens Girl Ray document their adolescent troubles on a debut of plaintive, lo-fi pop. The all-female trio are shambling and untutored, but singer Poppy Hankins songs, fuelled by a love of Abba and U.S. rocker Todd Rundgren, are rich in charm and promise. Guitars, keyboards and harmonies jostle on a string of break-up numbers, with the title track a meandering, 13-minute centrepiece>★★★
Bright Phoebus (Domino)
one of folks great lost records finally gets the wider hearing it deserves. Poorly received by purists in 1972, Bright Phoebus saw the siblings joined by Martin Carthy, Maddy Prior and Richard Thompson. The best moments veer wildly in style, with Rubber Band a catchy singalong and the title track a country tune.>★★★★
Paranormal (earMusic)
Backed by a solid band, Detroit veteran Alice is still spreading his tales of cannibals (Dead Flies), Cadillacs (Dynamite Road) and creatures of the night (the title track). This CD wont win many new fans, but lacks nothing in spirit (or spirits) with its power chords and rhythmic bluster enhanced by Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top, and U2s Larry Mullen.
★★★
America (Nude)
Stein steps away from her day job fronting the Aussie indie band Howling Bells to explore the dark heart of America on a downbeat solo debut. Theres an Americana-by-numbers feel to the opening cowboy tunes, but Stein finds her natural, smoky voice on Its All Wrong and Cry, a torch ballad worthy of Lana Del Rey.
★★★
Sunshine Tomorrow (Capitol)
The Beach Boys came back down to earth with a bump after 1966s peerless Pet Sounds, and the two albums that arrived the following year Smiley Smile and Wild Honey were patchy. This sprawling double CD gives us demo versions of the homespun Smiley Smile and a new stereo mix of the soul-tinged Wild Honey. However, the deluge of studio snippets, out-takes and inferior live versions make this one for Beach Boys fanatics only.
★★
Emerging Adulthood (Communion)
Hertfordshire teen McKenna examines the joys and uncertainties of youth on a debut driven by chiming guitars, electronics and tuneful nods to the Lightning Seeds and early Blur. Opening track Humongous, which speeds up as it builds, is too busy, but the songs become more streamlined, with Bethlehem addressing hate crime and Brazil tackling a topic untouched in pop history corruption at the worlds football governing body FIFA.
