Famed actor and filmmaker Mel Gibson has decided to part with his Costa Rican jungle bungalow for just under $30million, with the stunning compound featuring large stretches of beaches and three separate homes.
More impressive than the 11 bedrooms and three hilltop villas that the property boasts of is the 400 acres of private forest and more than two miles of coastline in the remote area of the Nicoya Peninsula in Costa Rica.
The man behind the blockbuster Braveheart and Road Warrior is willing to let go of the sprawling estate for $29.75million, dropping the price $500,000 from when he previously listed the home in 2014.
Gibson discovered the amazing piece of real estate when scouting locations for Apocalypto. Although the flick ended up being shot in the Mexican state of Veracruz, the 61-year-old came up with another use for the land.
The largest of the three coral-stone villas has seven bedrooms, eight bathrooms, a veranda, a large swimming pool and tanning area, which might make the father-of-nine miss having the space once the pad is sold.
The other two bungalows on the compound each come fitted with a full kitchen, vaulted ceilings, two bedrooms, three bathrooms and a crystal-blue pool.
Called Playa Barrigona, even sea turtles want a piece of the land, traveling hundreds of miles to lay their eggs at the white sand beaches every year.
Gibson, who owns several homes amassing millions of dollars, seems to be clearing out his property portfolio, with the sale of his jungle getaway and the recent listing of his medieval-themed Malibu mansion for $17.5million.
Hollywood actor Mel Gibson has listed his Costa Rican jungle mansion for sale at $29.75million. The property comes with three hilltop coral-stone villas, each fitted with several bedrooms and their own kitchen
The largest of the three manors, Casa Guanacaste, has seven bedrooms and eight bathrooms. The tiled floors add to the tropical feel of the home, which is located in the remote part of the Nicoya Peninsula in Costa Rica
The mansion is surrounded by the lush jungle terrain and rooms often open up to the beautiful scenery. The man behind the blockbuster Braveheart previously listed the property in 2014 for $29.8million
Although the beach is only a short walk away, the home comes with a large crescent-shaped swimming pool. A nicely shaded sunbathing area is poolside, perfect for drying off from a dip in the water or relaxing with a book
The largest villa opens up to a green outdoor space with balconies overlooking the stone courtyard, making it an ideal spot for morning mediation or evening relaxation
Gibson, a father-of-nine, might miss having the space once the pad is sold. However, the Australian-raised filmmaker still has an impressive property portfolio to fall back on. Gibson is rumored to have wandered the property with a machete in hand

The Mad Max actor has used the remote retreat over the years to seek solace with family and friends. With 11 large bedrooms, there is more than enough space for a large entourage
Gibson’s impressive property empire boasts multiple homes in Malibu, including a gated farm, mansions in Santa Monica, an estate in Greenwich, Connecticut, a Montana ranch and even another tropical getaway - an island in Fiji
Each villa is perched in a hilltop with its own pools, jungle and beach views and is ensconced in a blanket of greenery
Perhaps more impressive than the house itself is the 400 acres of private jungle and more than two miles of coastline in the remote area of the Nicoya Peninsula in Costa Rica
Bedrooms look out onto acres of rambling vibrant jungle teeming with monkeys and wildlife and offering sweeping views
The smaller two villas, Casa Barrigona and Casa Dorada, each offer two bedrooms and three bathrooms. There is also a Balinese house shipped over from Indonesia happily nestled in the grounds
Although the pad is clearly breathtaking, Gibson has been trying to sell the mansion for quite some time. The tropical retreat was listed in 2010 for $35million but later taken off the market before then being relisted at $29.8million
Exclusive real estate agent Christie's is marketing the estate. A video clip of the sprawling estate shows stunning views from multiple verandas overlooking acres of vibrant jungle and the white sand beaches of Barrigona
Because of its remote location, visitors often access it by private jet or helicopter, with a grass helipad welcoming aircraft carrying anyone wanting to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life
The white-sand beaches stretch for two miles on the 400-acre estate. Rarely marked on maps, Playa Barrigona is a haven of solitude and serenity drawing olive ridley sea turtles
If visitors grow bored of the serene but remote destination, there are nearby villages that have restaurants and shops
The home is plunked in the middle of a jungle. Costa Rica is in Central America, nestled between Nicaragua and Panama
Bedrooms, living and eating areas grandly open up to a stone courtyard, with native shrubbery as decoration
And there is beachlife too. The white sand beaches Barrigona on the remote Nicoya peninsula are just a short walk away
Playing off its tropical setting, the home is decorated with wooden furniture and accessories and plenty of green
Gibson has reportedly had several of his A-list friends stop by, including singer Britney Spears and actor Bruce Willis
Gibson is believed to have scooped up the property in order to dodge paparazzi, who are known for snapping shots of celebrities while they are on vacation
International real estate firm Christie's described the villas as 'tropical retreats unlike any other' and that 'the sights and sounds of the jungle envelop the grounds'
Gibson, who owns several homes amassing hundreds of millions, seems to be clearing out his property portfolio with selling his jungle getaway and with the listing of his medieval-themed Malibu mansion for $17.5million
