'I can't think of a more important time to do our show': Transparent's Jeffrey Tambor speaks out as he's honored with star on Hollywood's Walk Of Fame
Jeffrey Tambor was joined by his family as he received a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame on Tuesday.
The Emmy winning actor took the opportunity to make a political statement - insisting his show Transparent's wider importance cannot be understated in the current fraught political climate.
He made the comments in reference to President Donald Trump's announcement last month he intends to ban transgender people from serving in the US military.
Attack: Transparent star Jeffrey Tambor hit out at Donald Trump as he received a Hollywood Walk Of Fame star on Tuesday
Family fortune: He was surrounded by his wife Kasia Ostlun and his children
Tambor said playing Maura Pfefferman, a divorced, retired transgender professor is 'an opportunity of a lifetime.'
The 73-year-old added: 'And the responsibility of a lifetime. I can't think of a more important time to do our show than right now.'
The father of five also thanked his family and fellow cast members from the hit Amazon show, which premiered in 2014.
His five children and grandson joined him for the ceremony, along with his third wife, Kasla Ostlun,
Trans-fixing the audience: Jeffrey got into the spirit of things as he posed with his star
Galaxy of stars: He was joined by Transparent castmates Kathryn Hahn, Jay Duplass and Amy Landecker
Jeffrey's latest honor reflects a long career in TV and film, with perhaps his most notable previous role being Hank Kingsley on The Larry Sanders Show.
He was surrounded by friends and family at the event, including his Transparent co-star Katherine Hahn, wife Kasia Ostlun and his five children.
The event certainly went smoother than an appearance on Live back in May, where new host Ryan Seacrest mistook him for dead Home Alone actor Vincent Schiavelli.
Happy chappy: He was grinning from ear-to-ear as he savoured the atmosphere
All mine: He was having a great time posing with his new paving stone
No doubt Schiavelli has a resemblance to the comedy star but that did not stop the Arrested Development favorite from publicly humiliating the man who brought the world Keeping Up With The Kardashians.
Ryan said: 'We talked about the things you have done and some of the things you're doing, but to me, you’re the scary guy on the subway in Ghost.'
One for the album: Amazon studios chief Joe Lewis and Transparent writer Mitchell Hurwitz gave him a peck on the cheek
Making his point: He seemed to relish addressing the gathering of fans and wellwishers
Jeffrey reacted with a blank stare on his face at first but shifted it into a wry smile before revealing that it actually wasn't him
He explained: 'Oh, this is horrible. You’re gonna be embarrassed, that's not me.'
Ryan and co-host Kelly Ripa looked completely aghast as the Golden Globe winner revealed it was actually Schiavelli.
Signing on: The comedy favourite was only to happy to give out autographs on his big day
Giddy with glee: He had brought some prepared lines as he waited to give his speech
Star of the show: He was faced with a gaggle of photographers
In mock indignation, Jeffrey then said: 'Wow here we go. He's dead. I'm still here.
'We tried to book Vincent Schiavelli, he's passed away and here I am.
'Spitting image right? What is wrong with you! I came on to sell a book, not to be insulted. I am hurt.
'My reps are here and we are filing an action suit. I came on in good faith.'
A Trans-formative role: Jeffrey became a critical darling for his turns as retired transgender professor Maura Pfefferman in Transparent
Hey now: But his hardcore fans still most fondly remember him for his time as Hank Kingsley on The Larry Sanders Show
