Man suffers 'life-threatening injuries' after being stabbed in the neck with knife in front of horrified tourists in Covent Garden

A man is fighting for his life after he was stabbed in the neck in a busy tourist area in central London, in the middle of the afternoon.

A shocking image from the scene shows a man, believed to be in his 20s, lying on a stretcher in Covent Garden, with a wound to his neck. 

Police have confirmed his injuries are 'potentially life-threatening'.

Police have arrested a man on suspicion of grievous bodily harm. He remains in custody this evening.

A Met Police spokesman said: 'Police were called at 2.20pm on Wednesday, 9 August to reports of an assault in Brydges Place. 

'Officers and the London Ambulance Service attended and found a man, believed to be aged in his 20s, suffering from stab injuries. 

'He has been taken to a central London hospital. We await an update on his condition. 

'A man has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm. He has been taken to a central London police station where he remains in custody. 

'A crime scene is in place. Enquiries continue.
