But Naomi Watts, 48, looked in good spirits as she attended The Glass Castle premiere in New York, after opening up in a candid interview about family life.

Her glamorous appearance at the star-studded red carpet came after she discussed their co-parenting arrangement, revealing that while they are no longer together, they remain united as parents for their two sons.

The British actress told Australian Women's Weekly that despite her differences with 49-year-old Liev, they both see eye to eye when it comes to raising children Alexander 'Sasha', 10, and Samuel Kai, seven, in a stable environment.

'Routine is a big part of it,' she told the publication.

'Obviously Liev and I are actors - there is some moving - but we've really tried to keep the boys in the same school. Give them structure, boundaries.'

This came as she appeared at the premiere of her latest flick in a glamorous silk Fendi ensemble and Judith Leieber clutch.

Injecting a splash of colour with a bold red lip and scarlet stilettos (also by the Italian label), accessorising with a metal clutch and some dazzling Anita Ko jewelry.

She was joined by Brie Larson and her host of co-stars.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and due for release August 11, the film's based on the 2005 memoir by Jeannette Walls, whom Brie portrays when she's an adult.

Woody and Naomi play Jeannette's parents Rex and Rose Mary, who are seen leading a nomadic and chaotic existence with the young Jeannette and her three siblings.

Last month, Naomi star surprised fans when she reunited with the Ray Donovan star for their son Sasha's birthday.

In a snap shared to Instagram, the exes were pictured coming together to help the youngster cut his birthday cake.

'I mean, I'm single, I'm co-parenting... I'm doing okay,' she said.

'There are good days and there are bad days and Liev and I are on great terms - we're trying to do our absolute best for the sake of the children and we hope to keep moving forward in that way.'

She added: 'He's fantastic dad, a wonderful, wonderful man, and we still want the absolute best for each other. So that's pretty much all I'll say.'

They added: 'While we appreciate your curiosity and support, we ask the press to be mindful of our children and respect their right to privacy.'

The Gypsy star previously said she feels content after separating from Liev and that her focus is on their two children.

'I feel I'm in a good place in my life and I want to make sure my kids are healthy, my kids are happy and things are going to go well. Those are my hopes for me and for all of us,' she told News Corp.
