She's soon set to make her long-awaited return to the music industry after a lengthy legal battle with her ex-producer Dr Luke.

And Kesha broke down in tears during an emotional appearance on Good Morning America in New York City on Wednesday as she discussed the forthcoming release of her latest LP, Rainbow.

With the release of Rainbow later this week, the musician joked that she's 'trying to look as much like a rainbow as I can'.

Roberts gave the Tik Tok singer a rousing introduction to which the audience echoed, then asked Kesha if she was feeling the love.

'I feel so much right now I can't even. I was backstage dancing and punching stuff and crying. So many emotions all the time right now,' Sebert replied.

Kesha was also on hand to perform her emotionally charged single Praying, telling the audience:  'If I can make it through the song, I'm gonna be singing it.'

Of the track, Roberts said: 'It's so deep and personal talking about depression, suicide, tell us the meaning behind Praying'

After the question, the C'mon singer found herself fighting back tears before stating: 'It's so personal. I've written every song on this album and they're all so personal.

'The song I think is just really important because it talks about me personally going through something really hard, lots of very hard things, making it through, not giving up and finding empathy on the other side which is incredibly hard sometimes.'

Skirting around the lawsuit, as Kesha is not legally allowed to discuss it, Roberts said: 'We know, it's been well publicized, the issues and legally you can't talk about it.

'We don't want to talk about it, we're here now with you. How has that music, though, helped you through this difficult time?'

Kesha said: 'Well I think this record has quite literally saved my life. I hope you guys like it, I hope you can hear it and I hope it helps people.'

Speaking of the significance of the album's title Rainbow, she said 'I'm trying to look as much like a rainbow as I can.'

Kesha also revealed that she has covered her house in rainbows and has 'like 10' rainbow tattoos now because 'color symbolizes hope.'

The pop sensation is fully focused on relaunching her music career after an unexpected musical hiatus.

She filed a sexual assault civil suit against the Dr Luke in Los Angeles in October 2014 alleging he had drugged her with a 'sober pill' and raped her shortly after her 18th birthday in California and threatened to take away her publishing rights.

Sebert then filed a preliminary injunction request that same month claiming her career had been on a hiatus and will be 'effectively over' if she is not allowed to resume recording with another producer and label.

Dr Luke says the singer made up that story in an attempt to ruin his reputation to try to weasel out of her recording contract.

Kesha signed a contract with Dr Luke - who denied all the allegations of abuse - for five albums in 2005 and has so far released just two.
