Many Twitter users criticized the look, deeming the use of the wig culturally insensitive.

'Black women are not a costume. It's good that you are flattered by her but we are not a costume and you could have did it without the Afro,' one person wrote.

Several Twitter users called for Patrick to delete the post, while someone else pointed out: 'It's cultural appropriation since he himself doesn't face the struggles w/ having this texture. He can literally just take it off.'

Patrick did not delete the photos and instead opted to publish an apology on Twitter, pointing to his own Filipino origins.
