The New England Patriots have bought the jets, two 767 Boeing jets that is.

The five-time Super Bowl champions are the first team in NFL history to buy their own fleet of planes to travel to away games.

Sources told ESPN that the team bought the wide-body jets during the off-season and retrofitted them with all first-class seats.

At least one of the jets on the Patriots' roster is outfitted with the team's logo

The updated luxury aircrafts will include some seats that fully recline. Meanwhile at least one of the jets will be outfitted with the team's logo.

The planes could end up saving the team money in the long run. The cost of charter travel has gone up in recent years, with major carriers retiring bigger planes that typically carry teams around.

The space on the jets needs to carry a full team, support staff, all their heavy equipment.

NFL teams haven't thought much about buying their own planes in the past, with only 10 games on the road.

But charter travel has gotten more expensive over the past couple of years, due to the major carriers starting to retire the bigger planes that fly the teams around.

Sources with knowledge of the deals teams have done with charter companies tell ESPN the 10 round-trip flights per season can cost up to $4million.

These planes depending on how many miles they've flown and condition can cost anywhere from $5million to $65million.

The jets the Pats bought are able to fly an extended 12-hours at a time, with one being used as the main plane during the season, and the other as a back up.

The planes will be operated out of Providence, Rhode Island.

Almost as important as the jets potentially being cost-effective in the long run is that the team owned planes will help the athletes get a leg up on the recovery process.

The Patriots will also allow for the planes to be rented out during the season when they are not needed for team travel, sources said to ESPN.
