President Donald Trump said Thursday that the ban on transgender people serving in the armed services was doing the military a 'great favor.'

Trump got asked about his recent tweets thats that transgender people could not serve in 'any capacity' in the military. 

'I have great respect for the community," Trump said  at his golf course in Bedmininster, New Jersey along with his security team.

'I think I’ve had great support, or I’ve had great support from that community. I got a lot of votes. It’s been a very complicated issue for the military, it’s been a very confusing issue for the military, and I think I’m doing the military a great favor,' he said, The Hill reported. 

Trump announced the policy suddenly on Twitter, even though the Pentagon had already announced a six month delay in a policy review.

The New York Times reported that Defense secretary James Mattis got just a day's notice and was on vacation when the tweets went out. 

Two gay and lesbian rights groups announced a lawsuit against the new policy this week.   

The 29-year-old is enjoying dressing in women's clothing including pieces by her favorite designer Marc Jacobs and said she is getting to grips with social media. She is seen above in a recently posted Instagram picture

Trump wrote in a series of tweets in late July: 'After consultation with my Generals and military experts, please be advised that the United States Government will not accept or allow Transgender individuals to serve in any capacity in the U.S. Military.'

He continued: 'Our military must be focused on decisive and overwhelming victory and cannot be burdened with the tremendous medical costs and disruption that transgender in the military would entail. Thank you.'

Advocates claim there are as many as 15,000 troops that would be affected by the ban.

Several senators, including Arizona Sen. John McCain noted the cost associated with training people who might now have to be removed from the military at a time of recruitment challenges and war.

Trump spoke at a time of military tension with North Korea.

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said after Trump's tweets on the ban that the issues were 'military readiness and unit cohesion.'

Mattis had delayed a review in late June so that the matter could get studied. 

Meanwhile, Chelsea Manning, who was jailed and kicked out of the military after leaking secrets, posed in a new issue of Vogue. 

In an accompanying interview, Manning told how she relied on fashion bibles during her time in prison to keep her sane and revealed plans to start dating, explaining that she has always known she was attracted to men since she was a child. 

Wearing just a scarlet swimsuit and delicate necklace, the 29-year-old is seen in a Vogue photoshoot this month that is reminiscent of Caitlyn Jenner's famous Vanity Fair coming-out cover.
