Cooking ace? Former tennis pro Adam Andersen takes on My Kitchen Rules and reveals the pressure cooker show isn't as easy as it looks from the couch

Former tennis professional Adam Andersen has set out to show the country he's a cooking ace.

The player-turned-coach, who will represent New South Wales, told The Daily Telegraph that he entered the reality TV competition because he thought he could do better than past contestants.

'I suppose every person that sits on the couch at some stage says "oh my god I could do that" or "how did they make that mistake",' he told the publication.

'We were so good at critiquing but once you get involved within the machinations of the show, you go "we now know why people can make such simple mistakes",

'It’s fun, but it is high pressure and very stressful as well,' he admitted.

While taking on 11 other teams on My Kitchen Rules this year, the 80s tennis star will also turn up the heat in his own relationship, teaming up with new wife Carol Malloy on the show.

The 45-year-old newlywed couldn't even boil an egg when he came off the professional circuit.

As a result his shocked grandmother decided not to just teach him the basics but sent him off to classes at Le Cordon Bleu, the famous French cooking school.

Adam and Carol might be hoping to make it through to the grand slamming cooking finale at the end of the series but they've got some competition.

For the first time in the competition there will be a mother and son duo - Rose and Josh from Victoria.

Texan cowboy Robert Murphy, who moved to Australia 20 years ago, will team up with his daughter Lynzey Murphy to unleash some Southern cooking.

While Melbourne friends Ash and Camilla have a love of all things French and have said they think it's time someone brought class to the competition - clearly something they plan to do.

And there is even a Hollywood connection among the competition, with Chris and Liam Hemsworth's cousin Rob stirring up some trouble with his partner-in-crime, Matt.

In a tongue-in-cheek promo for the show Thor hunk Chris jokes: 'Rob I didn’t even know you could cook mate.'

'Good luck and good luck to anyone eating his food.'

Manu Fidel and Pete Evans return as hosts and judges on the show this year.

My Kitchen Rules returns to the Seven Network on February 2, following the return of Home And Away.
