Fresh from debut victory, golden boy Joshua turns out at Pride of Britain to celebrate nation's unsung heroes

Sports stars turned out in force to attend the Pride of Britain Awards in celebration of the UK's unsung heroes who have made their communities a better place to live.

Anthony Joshua, fresh from knocking Italian Emanuele Leo out in his professional boxing debut, wowed the crowds on the red carpet.

Former England midfielder and Sportsmail columnist Jamie Redknapp arrived dressed as immaculately as ever accompanied by his wife Louise, who said: 'It's a really humbling night. It's an amazing evening and the winners are special every year.'

The ceremony, which is in its 15th year, is staged at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London's Park Lane on Tuesday night before being shown on television the following evening.

Unassuming members of the public get to rub shoulders with celebrities from the worlds of sport and show business - Redknapp and Joshua were joined by England cricketer Ian Bell and former boxing champion Barry McGuigan.

Earlier, David Beckham presented an award to teenage activist Malala Yousafzai who was shot in the head after angering the Taliban with her public and courageous pleas for girls to be educated.

And, Michael Owen had previously launched the FA Football Champion Award to appreciate the  hundreds of thousands of committed people who are the true ­lifeblood of the national game.

'Whether it be referees, coaches or managers, all footballers are indebted to those people. None of us could get to the top without the start we had.”

Sporting stars are joined by a host of famous faces including Nicole Scherzinger, Christine Bleakley, James Corden and Paul Hollywood.
