He miraculously survived after his £2million electric supercar flipped over and burst into flames on a hillside in Switzerland in June.

And just two months after the horrific crash, Richard Hammond was back in the driving seat and cheering elatedly as he sped down an open road.

The Grand Tour star, 47 - who suffered a fractured knee - became emotional as he admitted that he had fantasised about being behind the wheel 'all this time'.

The father-of-two posted the gleeful clip of what appears to be his first drive since the crash on DriveTribe.

In the clip captioned: 'Today I took my First Drive since my recent visit to Shuntsville', he yelled joyfully: 'I'm back, oh yeah!

'This feels better than the first time, being 17 and given the keys to freedom because this time, I'm ready.'

Richard, who incredibly walked away from his crash with just an injured knee, then praised his medical staff, gushing: 'This is beautiful, thank you doctors, thank you.

'I shouldn't even be sharing this moment, it feels too personal right now ... I mean I'm dressed, but I feel like I'm not,' he joked.

The presenter then became choked up, admitting: 'This is where I've been all this time, in my head. I can go anywhere.'

In a reference to the botched mountain race, he said: 'Wales is over there, it's got mountains in it, there's a ghost I need to exorcise, I'm going there.'

Richard left the nation aghast in June, when he crashed while filming a mountain race in Switzerland.

He was driving a £2million Rimac Concept One supercar when it tumbled down a slope and burst into flames.

The badly shaken former Top Gear presenter managed to escape from the burning car before it erupted into a fireball, suffering a fractured knee.

The car burned at temperatures of 1200 to 1500 degrees and was hosed with cold water for eight hours before a tow truck could safely remove it.

Past trauma: During his time as part of the Top Gear team, Hammond suffered a high-profile crash in 2006 while filming a driving stunt which left him in a coma for two weeks and with brain injuries

Speaking to the Sunday Mirror, Grand Tour executive producer Andy Wilman said: 'Jeremy and James both raced down to the scene of the crash as soon as it happened. When they saw the wreckage on fire they thought Richard was dead. It was really bad.

'They were staggered he had got out of it alive, because there was just nothing left. Everyone is so relieved. If Richard had been a few seconds slower getting out, he would have been incinerated.'
