And Nicole Kidman has opened up about reaching the milestone age, as she takes on another role as an adoptive mother in Top Of The Lake: China Girl.

The beauty spoke with TV WEEK on Monday about how she's in 'the prime of her career' and why her 'big passion' is her family.

When asked how she felt turning 50, the Hollywood veteran stated it wasn't something she was keeping a secret.

'I feel glad to be able to say I'm 50. It's not something I try to hide,' she declared.

The mother of four added that she has been 'embracing the preciousness' of it.

Chic: The mother of four added that she has been 'embracing the preciousness' of turning 50

She cited her hit television series Big Little Lies as an example of older women creating quality content due to not 'being offered complex, interesting roles'.

'We created our own opportunities and then we gave our girlfriends' roles,' she described of the project she spearheaded alongside Reese Witherspoon.

The Oscar winner reflected on her three decades of acting and offered she had always 'done the best I could'.

'Have things then failed because of other reasons? Absolutely. But it's not because I didn't try my hardest,' she observed.

Her comments come after Nicole has long been subject to rumours of cosmetic surgery.

In 2011, the mother-of-four admitted to using the face-freezing drug, Botox, but insisted she'd stopped.

'I've tried a lot of things, but aside from sports and good nutrition, most things don’t make a difference,' the blonde beauty told TV Movie magazine at the time.

'I even tried Botox but I didn't like how my face looked afterwards.

'Now I don't use it any more and I can move my forehead again,' she concluded.

After stunning audiences with her performance as Sue Brierley in Lion, Nicole's new role is as adoptive mum Julia in the TV series Top Of The Lake: China Girl.

She will star in the second season with Alice Englert, 22, daughter of the show's director Jane Campion and also Nicole's goddaughter.
