Kicking him while he's down: Idris Elba leaves a London restaurant hobbling on crutches after breaking his leg... after new movie The Dark Tower suffers bad reviews from critics

He's currently starring in movie The Dark Tower, which has suffered unfavorable reviews, while rumours that he is to be the next 007 have been quashed this week by Daniel Craig's announcement that he is to return.

And Idris Elba had another irritating issue to deal with on Thursday as he was seen struggling along on crutches in London.

The actor, 44, seems to have suffered a leg injury as he was spotted leaving Sexy Fish in Knightsbridge, struggling to get along the pavement.

Elba looked a little pained as he dragged himself along wearing a black polo shirt, black jeans and a navy jacket.

He wore comfy white tennis shoes for the night out as he hopped along the sidewalk on the walk aids.

The appearance comes after the star tweeted his apologies to Boardmasters surf and music festival in Cornwall this week, after he had to cancel his attendance due to the injury.

Uploading a photo of his hurt leg, the Hollywood star captioned it: '#Boardmasters, regretfully I will not be able to make it down tonight due to an injury. Absolutely gutted! Hopefully catch you next year.'

It's unclear precisely what's happened to Elba's leg - MailOnline has approached his reps for comment.

Also at the West London eatery was Jack Whitehall, who was spotted leaving and chatting on the phone.

He also looked casual in jeans and a beige jacket.

It's not certain that the pair were dining together - the trendy haunt is frequented by various London-based celebrities.

The unfortunate injury comes as Elba's movie The Dark Tower has been panned by critics.

The likes of Rotten Tomatoes and Empire have only awarded it a 16 per cent and two out of five rating respectively.

Various publications have referred to the offering - which is adapted from Steven King's novel series of the same name - as 'a haphazard misfire', 'a disappointing dud' and 'a Star Wars cash in'.

The movie - in which Elba stars alongside Matthew Matthew McConaughey - is intended to be the first in a series, and was released in the US on August 4.

It has grossed $54 million worldwide against a production budget of $60 million.

On top of this, the news broke this week that Daniel Craig is indeed reprising his role as James Bond in the next chapter in the 007 universe.

Speculation had been rife that Craig wouldn't return, and that Elba could perhaps be asked to be the first black actor to play the iconic spy.

But Craig performed a dramatic twist by confirming he would reprise his role as 007 - following reports that he was offered $135million (£100million) to return.

It was a very rapid U-turn on the part of the 49-year-old, whose most recent appearance as the British spy was in 2015's Spectre.

Craig, who is the second longest serving Bond after Roger Moore, previously suggested he was done with the franchise after his fourth appearance as the iconic spy in Spectre.

During an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Tuesday, he was asked if he would be playing the iconic role for a fifth time.

He replied: 'Yes. I couldn't be happier. I've been quite cagey about it.

'I've been doing interviews about it all day and people have been asking me and I've been kind of coy but I kind of felt like, if I was going to speak the truth, I should speak the truth to you.'

The star admitted he 'always wanted to return' to the role, but confirmed the next Bond movie will be his last.
