Anna Faris and Chris Pratt's son Jack turned aged five on Thursday.

His birthday celebration is no doubt a welcomed highlight during a tough month for the 40-year-old Mom actress and the 38-year-old Jurassic World action star.

Not only did they announce their sad separation on August 6, but on Tuesday Faris went on a podcast where she proved all is not well with the two by saying: 'Life is too short to be in relationships where you feel this isn't fully right or somebody doesn't have your back, or somebody doesn't fully value you.'

The blonde beauty, who wed Pratt in 2009, was not speaking specifically about her relationship with Chris, but rather was giving advice to a caller on the podcast My Favourite Murder.

But her choice of words suggested she was using her own failed romance as an example. Anna continued her heartfelt message: 'Don't be afraid to feel your independence if things aren't right.' 

Jack is certainly worth celebrating. The couple had difficulty during his first few months of life as he was born premature.

The boy was born two-and-a-half months early and spent one month in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) before being sent home. 'We were scared for a long time. We prayed a lot,' Pratt told People in 2013.

'It restored my faith in God, not that it needed to be restored, but it really redefined it.

'The baby was so beautiful to us, and I look back at the photos of him and it must have been jarring for other people to come in and see him, but to us he was so beautiful and perfect.'

'It's one of those things that drives you apart or makes you closer,' Anna said at the time.

'Our little Jack didn’t want to be an October baby. He wanted to be born in summer, I guess. Anna woke me up in the middle of the night and she told me that her water had just broke. It was two and a half months early. Oh baby. Ready or not,' Chris said at a March Of Dimes event. 

'My water broke in the middle of the night at seven months. We rushed to the hospital and they were able to halt active labor with magnesium,' Anna told Redbook.

She was placed on bed rest but then went into labor seven days in.

'I was in denial. For hours I was like, "I’m just having indigestion,"' she said. 

'Chris and I were so scared, but then Jack came out and, even though he was so tiny, he looked so good to us.'

But once his baby was worn, Chris said it was 'just the best feeling I've ever had.'

He added: 'My little boy just laying across my neck and my chest, and feeling my heart beat and feeling the love. I played him country music and I sang to him, and I made him promises in that moment … about what kind of dad I wanted to be and I just prayed that he’d live long enough to let me keep them.'

It was hard on the couple when Pratt had to spend five months away from his family to film Guardians of the Galaxy in London.

He said he was worried Jack wasn’t going to recognize him.

The couple have said they wanted a second child. In 2016 she said: 'We both love kids, Chris and I have both dreamed about having a big family. But I didn't love pregnancy … I was just bored. I was uncomfortable at times, and Jack came early. He came two months early, so now I’m in a high-risk pregnancy category, but I would love to.'

On August 6 the actors released a joint statement on social media which read: 'We are sad to announce we are legally separating,

'We tried hard for a long time, and we’re really disappointed. Our son has two parents who love him very much and for his sake we went to keep this situation as private as possible moving forward. We still love each other and will always cherish our time together.' 

Her first comments after the split were made on her Unqualified podcast: 'Hey, dear listeners!' she said. 'I just want to thank you all so much for all the love I've been receiving, and I truly love you.'

Meanwhile, Chris, 38, was spotted leaving LA on a private jet with an unidentified blonde female companion on Monday.

It's not known where Chris was going or if the mystery blonde was an assistant or production coordinator, but she boarded the plane with the star. 

Chris made his first high-profile appearance at the Teen Choice Awards on Sunday to accept his award for Choice Sci-Fi Movie Actor. 

The Parks And Recreation star didn't touch on the split at all, but did joke about his rise in Hollywood, something many sources say lead to his split with Anna.

The speech, which was an attempt at self-deprecation, saw Chris detail how his career in the industry began.

'When I came to Los Angeles,' Pratt said, 'I came from Hawaii and I had all of this blond hair and I was tan and I met an agent because I really wanted to be an actor and get an agent.' 

He then said that the agent asked, '"Wow. Bro you must surf?" And I said "Yeah" and that was the first of many lies I told to get where I am today. Thank you.'

While he did not thank his soon to be ex wife, he did leave on a religious note: 'I would not be here with the ease and grace I have in my heart without my lord and savior, Jesus Christ.' 

Anna and Chris, who married in 2009 after meeting on the set of Take Me Home Tonight, have a son, four-year-old Jack, together.
