Video shows the horrifying carnage left after a van ploughed into pedestrians in a popular tourist area in Barcelona.   

Carnage ensued as emergency services rushed to the scene and armed police began to patrol the now empty streets in search of the van driver. 

Numerous bodies lay motionless on the ground of the Las Ramblas promenade, located in the centre of Barcelona.
