Long way from Winterfell! Kit Harington swaps Game of Thrones for Gunpowder as he joins Liv Tyler for explosive new BBC Guy Fawkes drama
Guy Fawkes’ ill-fated plan to blow up Parliament will be dramatised in a gripping new BBC series starring Liv Tyler and Kit Harington.
In his first outing since Game of Thrones, Kit, 30, will play Robert Catesby, the Warwickshire gentleman who was the Gunpowder plot’s mastermind and driving force.
While, Liv, 40, plays Lady Anne Vaux, a cousin of Catholic dissident Catesby, who becomes embroiled in the plot.

A trailer for the new series shows a trail of gunpowder leading to a cellar where Guy Fawkes, played by Downton Abbey’s Tom Cullen, sits in wait.
The camera then pans to reveal Catesby who describes his current situation and outlines his now famous plan to destroy King James I and Parliament on November 5.
The Gunpowder Plot of 1605 was one of the most famous examples of Catholic/Protestant tensions in 17th century Britain.

Catesby started planning his attack after James I ordered catholic priests to leave the country and continued fining Catholics that won’t attend Church of England services.
Guy Fawkes was employed as an explosives expert.
But after his plot was foiled with an anonymous letter and he was sentenced to being hung drawn and quartered.

American Miss Tyler, a former model, has a film career going back to 1994 including roles in Lord of the Rings, The Incredible Hulk and Armageddon.
Gunpowder will also star Mark Gatiss, from Sherlock), Peter Mullan (Top of the Lake), Shaun Dooley (Broadchurch) and Robert Emms (Happy Valley).
Gunpowder will air on Saturday nights this autumn on BBC One.
