Pardew confident Cabaye has put failed move to Arsenal behind him
Yohan Cabaye returns to the Newcastle side and manager Alan Pardew is convinced the France midfielder has put his failed move to Arsenal behind him.
Cabaye was left out of the latest France squad so spent the last week in the North East with his newborn daughter.
‘You can just tell he’s in a place where he has turned a corner,’ said Pardew, who will also start Loic Remy at Aston Villa today. Both were substitutes against Fulham when Cabaye’s arrival was greeted by jeers and cheers. Cabaye had refused to play after Newcastle rejected Arsenal’s £10million bid.
Focused: Alan Pardew says Yohan Cabaye is over his potential move to Arsenal
Pardew said: ‘I did speak to him, but not at great length. It must have been a difficult period for him as well. I’m not saying he was perfect in the way he handled it but he will react to it in his way.
‘He is a very focused person. The players really like him, so do the staff and so do I. We were willing and wanting him to stay.’
