Tucking into a glass of red wine and a bowl of delicious pasta, the actress, 34, couldn't have looked happier.

Kate looked lovely in a bright red sundress with white buttons and matching embroidery.

Cinched in to emphasize her trim waistline, the dress was pleated and hemmed shortly below the knee, clashing against the flat black pumps the screen beauty was wearing.

Kate opted for minimal make-up, wore dark sunglasses and slicked her blonde hair severely back, wrapping it into a tight bun.

Michael, 46, who's part of a screenwriting team with his twin brother Mark, matched a blue and white baseball cap with a white T-shirt and a blue pair of trousers.

Kate and Michael - who has a daughter Jasper, 19, from his previous marriage - met when he directed her in a cinematic adaptation of Jack Kerouac’s 1962 novel Big Sur in 2011.

The couple tied the knot two years later in a romantic ceremony in Philipsburg, Montana, on August 31, 2013.

Speaking in an interview with British Marie Claire magazine in January 2015, Kate admitted she was cautious about rushing into a relationship with her director while they were filming on set in California.

She explained: 'There are so many people that hook up on movies, and you wonder if that's real, so we didn't go there.

'I think we were both experienced to know that if this was the real deal, we could wait to see what would happen.'

Having adopted a patient approach to her romance with the director, Kate admits it wasn’t long before she discovered he was ‘The One'.

She recalled: 'That's when it hit me, at about a million miles an hour – I almost fell off my chair.

'They always say, "You know when you know," and I had found that quite frustrating my whole life.

'I thought, "Yeah, but how do you really know?" But it's true – he walked in and it hit me, like nothing I'd ever felt before…

'Meeting Michael honestly felt like coming home. It feels comfortable and secure but also exciting.'
