What a way to go! MasterChef evictee Steven Phe caps off disaster dish by spraying judges with whipped cream

He'd only been cooking for a year when he was eliminated from the MasterChef kitchen, and 20-year-old Steven Peh's inexperience showed in his final round on the cooking show.

Attempting to impress the judges with an element of showmanship, Perth-born Steven chose to add the final touches to his dish at the elimination table.

But steadily approaching the plate with his pressurised can of foam in hand, things soon blew up for the home chef as the cream burst and splattered all over the table - and guest judge Scott Pickett.

On Monday night's episode, happy-go-lucky Steven fought it out in the elimination Pressure Test against Sarah Todd, Byron Finnerty and Brent Owens.

And Steven didn't finish the competitive round without leaving his own special mark.

The contestants were given the option to cook either a savoury or sweet dish.

Steven tried to replicate the parsnip, Jerusalem artichoke and black venere rice pudding, with disastrous results.

'There was a really funny moment, when some of my elements weren’t going really well,' he said with a laugh.

'I used my cream gun to create the foam for my dish and it exploded all over the judges.'

The mistake was just one of the problems with his dish.

'There's a big problem with the ice cream and there's a big problem with the foam,' said permanent judge George Calombaris, with co-star Matt Preston adding: 'And there's a bit of a problem with the panna cotta as well'.

'The biggest disappointment for me is the rice,' said Gary Mehigan. 'It's nutty and it's not even close to good'

Fortunately for the young contestant, the foam disaster was met with an eruption of laughs as the judges wiped the smattering of whipped cream from their faces.

'I'm glad that they took it light-heartedly,' said Steven.

Steven was surprised that he lasted as long as he did in the competition.

'In all honestly I thought I'd be the first one out,' he told the MailOnline. 'I was the least experienced cook. It was a year ago for me from when I first started cook, so for me it was always ‘how am I still here'.'

He also revealed who he hopes will take the top prize.

'I really want Bryon to win, and he’s got the potential to win it. [The elimination] came down to me and Byron, and it’s tough because we’re best mates in the house. That was the toughest thing from the whole ordeal.'

Steven said since leaving the show, he's been completing work experience at eateries throughout Perth and that he eventually wants to open pop-up restaurants in his home town.

'I’d like to start the pop up theme in Perth – there aren’t any restaurants like that here,' he revealed to MailOnline.

'I’m still trying to figure out the type of cuisine I would serve. I’m born into a Chinese/Malaysian family but ate a lot of western style food, so it would probably be a hybrid.'
