Hebrew Roots/Hebraic Roots/Messianic Movements

Please note: Research into the Hebrew Roots & Messianic movements constitutes research into Judaism as well as the occult. We fully respect each persons right to believe or utilize what resources they choose. We however, see a clear distinction in believing the Messiah has come versus utilizing resources which still await His coming. That is how and why we must evaluate all to Christ and the New Testament as well as the Tenach. We do not wish to edit or criticize Judaism, but recognize it as distinct from our Christian beliefs, just as many in Judaism also see a distinction and separateness from our beliefs, and we jointly have mutual respect for our differences and each other.

   Hebrew Roots FAQS & Myths

**This series is under construction**Please check each section for hotlinks to posted articles

  Basic Doctrinal Issues

Myth. Christians don't know that Jesus was Jewish

Myth. We need to go back to OUR Jewish Roots
Myth. Christians are pagan and are lost unless they turn to Hebrew roots...

Myth. It is impossible to understand the Bible unless one uses a "Hebraic" mindset. Christians have a Greek mindset or western gentile mindset and therefore can't understand the true meaning of the Bible.

Myth. The church has "lost its roots for the last 2000 years"...

Myth. False prophets merely make mistakes because they are human, and the passages referring to them don't apply, therefore they can continue in leadership and as prophets, regardless of how often they predict and are proven wrong.

Myth. Jesus was killed on an execution stake, and not a cross.
Myth. Christians don't understand the 'three days and three nights' ...

Myth:  Hebrew Idioms, Hebraic Idioms, Hebrew Mindset, and a Hebraic Mindset are Necessary for Understanding the Scriptures

Myth: Zechariah 8:23 states that 10 men will take hold of a Jew, which means that the gentiles will return to the "ancient paths" and keep Torah by grabbing hold of a Messianic person who understands that we must keep the Law/Torah; and who has the "Hebraic mind-set" in order to correctly understand the Scriptures. The Messianics are really (Gentiles in most cases claiming to be) Jews who are Israelites of the House of Israel aka Ephraimites, who are actually part of the "lost" tribes and are Torah observant.

Myth. It is a Renewed Covenant, not a New Covenant. It is a Renewed Covenant not a New Testament.

Myth The New Covenant is not here yet
Error- Two House, Ephraimites, Joes, Lost Tribes -all believers are Jewish

  Under the Law
Myth. The bride of Messiah will only be those who are Torah obedient, meaning keeping the law of Moses (Sinai covenant)
  Whose Law Was It?
  How Torah Observant?
The Law of Moses Versus The Truth of the Gospel
  The Definition of Faith

Myth. The bride of Messiah will only be those who have the correct "Hebraic" Name for God and "Yahshua".

Myth: The New Testament is merely "Yahshuah's (or whatever variation) interpretation of the Tenakh" To be clear, they believe that what Jesus spoke was merely an "interpretation" of the Old Testament.

Myth. Christians worship an antinomian or lawless  Jesus, but He was Torah observant, and we are to follow His example of that.

Myth. Paul was Torah observant
Did Paul teach to keep the Passover and feasts?
  Did Paul give animal sacrifices?
  Did Paul Teach Tithing?

Myth: Some say that Paul advocated circumcision by advising Timothy to have one done, and therefore if one follows the Mosaic Law, it is part of keeping Torah.

Myth: The handwriting of ordinances in Col 2:8 refer to the oral law or oral Torah, also known as the Talmud. The oral law is inferred in the NT in other of Paul's writings, like Galatians, which is the correct understanding of "under the Law"

Myth: Christians are antinomians because they don't keep the Sabbath on Saturday and therefore violate Torah.

Myth. We need to keep the Sabbath, as part of the commandments, and to not do so means we are lawless or "anti-nomian".

Myth. We are under the law of Torah or Law of Moses, because Jesus said in Matthew 5:17-19 that He didn't come to destroy the law and heaven and earth haven't passed away, therefore we must follow it over pagan Christian teachings.

Did Jesus bring a New Torah with the New Covenant?

Myth. We need to keep all the Biblical feasts or Jewish celebrations and eat kosher food in order to be Torah observant (keep the law) and obedient and show we belong to God.

Myth. The Vision of the Sheet which Peter had, found in Acts 10, refers strictly to people, and does not include food like Christians believe. We are to keep kosher, and not eat certain foods because that violates Torah.

  Keeping the Feasts?

Myth. The "613" (rabbinical count) commandments were given to Moses, and  are all considered the Torah.

Myth. Jesus wore a tallit with the fringe knots representing the 613 commandments. Jesus wore a prayer shawl (tallit) and so should we

Myth. Jesus wore a kippah and so should we

Myth. Paul taught to tithe to the Levites which today would be to 'Torah' teachers.

   Tithing in the Old Testament

Myth: Tithing is part of New Testament doctrine

Myth:  From Genesis to Revelation, there are hundreds of commandments and ordinances. Yet, believers are never told to read the Bible. Out of all the mitzvot, this one is just not there.

Myth: According to Micah 4:2 The Law, as disseminated by particular Hebrew Roots teachers, will go forth out of Zion (meaning physical Jerusalem) and then God/Jesus will teach us Torah in the millennium.

Sacrifices, Feasts, Celebrations

Myth. Paul sacrificed animals at the temple even after he became an apostle.

Myth. Some in Hebrew Roots and kabbalah make various claims regarding the concept that Jesus did not fulfill the "Torah" requirements of being the "Passover Lamb."  4

Myth  It pleases Yahuah (God) or Yahweh or some other imagined sacred name, and is being obedient to Yeshua (most use Yahshua or similar)  to have sacrifices made, including sacrificing a passover lamb.4

Myth. Jesus celebrated the passover seder as it is celebrated today.4

Myth. Easter is a pagan celebration based on worship of the pagan goddess Eostre, and that is what is being worshipped by Christians. It is based on the false translation of the word pascha, and rejection of the Jewish feasts.  4a

Myth: We should celebrate Purim as part of the holidays found in the Old Testament.

Myth Jesus celebrated Hannukah not Christmas, and we should be celebrating Channukah instead of pagan Christmas

Myth. Hanukkah commemorates the miracle of the oil and the victory of the Maccabees over the Gentile rule and should be celebrated by those in Hebrew Roots or Messianics instead of pagan Christmas.

Myth. God ordained Hanukkah and it is Scriptural, therefore Messianics and Christians should celebrate it instead of Christmas. The ceremonies are found in the Scriptures.

Myth: The Hanukkah Menorah with nine candles symbolizes Christ and therefore all Messianics and Christians should be celebrating Hanukkah instead of pagan Christmas.

Myth. Christians believe Christmas is Jesus' birthday.

Myth. We need to celebrate the Feast of Trumpets-Yom Teruah-Rosh Hashana, as it ties into The Rapture and return of Christ.

Myth: Zechariah 14:16 is The Biblical Reason for Keeping the Feast of Tabernacles (Sukkot)

The Feast of Tabernacles and The Millennial Reign

MythA 3rd temple and the sacrificial system must be reinstituted and Yeshua will be making the sacrifices  4d

  Names For God & Jesus

Myth. The name Jesus is the same as zeus or some female pagan deity, or the abomination of desolation; means pig, horse or other unflattering definitions. ??? is the true name or sacred name...

Myth. YAHshua is the "true" name of Jesus.

Myth. There were no 'J's in Hebrew so His name could not be Jesus

Myth. God and Lord are pagan names, which must be expunged from our Bibles and vocabulary.  XXX is the True Name of God or sacred name. ...

  Who Is Jesus

Myth. Jesus is an agent of God, but not God in the flesh.

Myth. Jesus was the son of Joseph, not the Son of God. Jesus was not conceived or born from the 'virgin' Mary.

Myth. Jesus was a Prophet and a sage and the Messiah, but He was not God in the flesh. He was just a man.

Myth. Jesus is one of many Messiahs or prophets, but not The Prophet or The Messiah awaited by many according to the OT

Myth. Jesus is the abomination of desolation, and those who have followed him are going to hell

  Talmud & Kabbalah

Myth. Jesus followed and quoted the oral law, which many claim is the talmud and kabbalah.  Jesus quoted Hillel and Shammai.

Myth. We must learn to understand the Scriptures through the use of midrash, halacha, the Talmud and the wisdom of the sages. Christians must learn to use midrash in order to properly understand the Scriptures.

Myth. The writings of the Jewish sages and the Talmud, which are often quoted by the Hebrew roots teachers, do not blaspheme Christ and His finished works.

Myth. Jesus and Paul used PaRDeS.  Paul practiced kabbalah.

Myth. Our minds must be made new in order to understand the difficult passages of Scripture and hidden Hebrew idioms. To merely read the Bible and take every word at face value means we miss the hidden meanings.

Myth. There is a need for Christians to study kabbalah in order to understand the Scriptures. It is impossible to understand the true meaning of Scriptures without using kabbalah.

Myth. Bible Codes are necessary to understand the 'hidden' meanings in the Scriptures

Myth. Traditional Jewish writings support the Hebrew Idioms concepts and understandings. From a Hebraic mindset or view, it is easy to Understand the Difficult Words of Jesus.

Myth Christians are seldom encouraged to study and search for the deeper and true meaning of the Scriptures, unlike those in Hebrew Roots or those getting back to their "Jewish roots." The Talmud is a necessary part of gaining understanding and clarity of the Scriptures.

  Language

Myth. None of the apostles (or Jesus) spoke any Greek, because it was a pagan language. No Jew would ever speak Greek.

Myth. Hebrew will be the Holy language of heaven or Hebrew is the Holy language of heaven or the divine language of Heaven. People can learn it now, from special Hebrew Roots scholars.

Myth. It is not possible to curse in Hebrew.

Myth. Clarity will comes through word studies and research with books like Hebrew dictionaries and lexicons. By recognizing Hebrew idioms and learning the differences between modern translations, bad translations and humanism., which muddle our understanding, but learning the ancient Hebrew language, is just the start to really studying the scriptures. We also need to learn the Hebrew culture.

  Scriptures

Myth. The NT was originally written in Hebrew/Aramaic, not Greek because Greek is from pagan influences and/or filled with translation errors, which they must eliminate or "correct".

Myth.  Most of the Scriptures were originally written in the Hebrew and Aramaic languages

Myth: Khaboris Codex Aramaic Peshitta New Testament Manuscript (Khabouris Codex) has come under harsh attack by the Greek primacists because they are fearful that the authority of the Greek Scriptures may be undermined. The Khabouris Manuscript proves Aramaic primacy of the NT manuscripts.

Myth.  Jesus and the apostles quoted exclusively from the Old Testament, and the New Testament writings were just meant to be letters, and were never to be
considered Scripture. Therefore our doctrine must first come from the Law of Moses. The New Testament is merely discussing the Old Testament and is not Scripture inspired by God like the OT.

Myth. The "Hebrew Matthew, or Shem Tov, or Shem Tob Matthew prove a Hebrew original.  The Hebrew Matthew proves that the NT was written in Hebrew first.

Myth. The ISR Scriptures, Hebrew Roots Version (HRV), Restoration Scriptures, etc. are translated with the correct sacred names while also removing declared pagan elements.

   The ISR : The Scriptures

The Restoration Scriptures True Name Edition (RSTNE)

The Hebrew Roots Version (HRV) by James Trimm

Myth. David Stern's Complete Jewish Bible (CJB), is the best Bible to use

Myth. King James intentionally altered a Biblical name (Jakob) so that he could place his name (James) into the scriptures

Myth. The book of Hebrews is full of error, therefore not really canon.

Myth. Galatians is misunderstood by Christians, so it needs to be redefined and reinterpreted by Hebrew  Roots 'scholars' or removed entirely

Myth. The Masoretic Texts were written by corrupt Jewish scribes, and we should use the Septuagint or LXX as authoritative

Myth: Paul never wrote the book of Romans. It says right in your Bible that Paul never wrote the book of Romans, he dictated it to Tertius.

Myth. The issue with the camel and the eye of the needle is not an idiom but a bad translation, in which the word "large rope" should have been used. This ‘opens up a whole new can of worms,’ as a separate issue of mistranslating the texts by pagan Greeks and the need to search for the truth
